Steaks are top-notch with beef sourced from the famous O’Shea family farm in Scotland.
The fillet (£34, 250g) is rugby player-sized so opt for medallions if you want something lighter. If you’re feeling decadent, you can top your steak with a duck egg or order a side of lobster. There’s also an exceptional Highland Wagyu Rib-eye on the menu, at £100 for 250g. Sides are reasonably-priced and generously-portioned although I couldn’t help but feel that some chunky, triple-cooked chips might work better than the rustic fries served up.
Dessert was probably my favourite part of the night (I am a pudding gal after all.) They’re refined, which is just what you want after a hearty main. We chose the Pumpkin Brûlée (£6.50) and Apple & Blackberries (£8) – a modern take on an apple pie. The petite pie – filled with steaming fruit – is surrounded by shards of a wafer and a dollop of custard ice cream which melts together into a sweet, gooey mess.
The separate bar is perfect for pre-match drinks or cocktails with friends with its buzzing atmosphere and Savoy-style design. There are 20 wines served by the glass, locally-sourced beers and a contemporary cocktail list. If you’ve got a sweet-tooth, I recommend the signature Lady Twickenham (£7.50) which is a velvety mix of gin, passionfruit, violet and lemon liquors.
Whether you’re a rugby fan looking for some glamour or a local in need of a mid-week pick-me-up, M Twickenham might just be your favourite new foodie destination. Head here for posh comfort food, an ‘everyone’s welcome’ atmosphere and that much-loved M Restaurants exclusiveness.
