Maiden Cricket, a New Clothing Brand from Teenagers Honor and Cat Black

It is often said, “Age is just a number,” if you need any proof of this, look no further than 16-year-old Honor Black and her fifteen-year-old sister Cat, who are the creative forces behind a new sports-focused clothing brand called Maiden Cricket.

If you’re a teenager – or you have a teenager – wanting to Look and Play their best cricket, then Maiden should be your first port of call. The cricket apparel range is the brainchild of sisters Honor and Cat Black, aged 16 and 15, respectively, who have designed clothing that takes the anxiety over what you’re wearing – ensuring you remain fully focused on the pitch.

A good example of the thought that has gone into their clothing range can be seen in their Test Match and Nightwatch trousers. They have protective built-in shorts, so if a girl is on her menstrual cycle, she won’t need to worry about leakage, as they add an extra layer of comfort and protection.

Plus, the trousers have an adjustable bottom hem, which means you can adjust them to your ideal length, making them perfect for the ever-growing teenage girl and will save money when it comes to the next season.

Each item is made with the female form in mind. Fed up with having to wear uncomfortable and ill-fitting cricket clothes usually made solely for boys, Honor and Cat Black developed the designs for the Maiden clothing range to help girls feel more confident on the cricket field.

What the sisters have created is more than just a brand, Maiden is a declaration that cricket—with all its passion and excitement—is for everyone, played at the very top level by both boys and girls.

The range includes:

Test Match Trousers (£55.00)
Stylish, comfortable, and made from recycled materials, Maiden’s Test Match Trousers are made with a twill weave, aren’t see-through, and are fleece-backed, meaning they have a super-soft feel against the skin. They have adjustable waist ties, side pockets, back knee breathable mesh panels, and rubberised metal trims. Perfect for girls aged 8 to 18.

Nightwatch Trouser (£55)
Like the Test Match Trouser, the Nightwatch Trouser is designed with an elastic back waistband for a great fit. It mirrors the Test Match Trouser in all ways except that it is navy blue, which gives you the chance to wear an alternative colour when whites aren’t required.

Maiden Pace Pullover (£43.00)
Perfect for when you’re waiting to bat, the Pace Pullover is designed for a slim fit. It has a ribbed neck, cuffs, and hem for comfort, a poly interlock fabric, and benefits from good stretch and recovery. Soft and durable, it allows for easier movement for a wicket-winning bowl (or for a six-scoring shot).

This warmer cricket top allows room to move without excess fabric, avoiding that uncomfortable baggy look.

Maiden Mid – On Top (£35.00)
Maiden’s Mid-On Top is a slim, fitted, short-sleeve top specifically designed to make bowling easy. Extremely lightweight, it has a breathable mesh underarm to keep you dry, cool, and comfortable while still looking good.

The flat collar has neat, smart proportions, and a V-shaped neckline gives it a flattering style and makes it easy to wear with the Maiden Pace pullover. Because it is not sheer, there is no risk of transparency, no matter how hard you play.

Honor Black, 16, Co-Founder of Maiden, says, “It’s been a journey of passion and dedication. Cricket was a game we fell in love with as kids. But, every time we wore those oversized jerseys and trousers, it felt like we were borrowing someone else’s dream. With Maiden, we want every girl to feel their best in their cricket kit, to be proud and ready to play their best.

“We put a lot of thought and detail into each of the clothing’s designs and have had really positive feedback from the press, cricketing industry and girls who have joined the Maiden Mission and purchased the kit love the look and feel

“We want to champion girls’ cricket; highlight what a fantastic sport it is in instilling confidence in young women and building a community of girls supporting girls, championing others’ success and looking and feeling good along the way.”

Here are a couple of the reviews from Maiden’s heroes who wear the kit on the pitch:

Rebecca, aged 11, from County Durham, says, “I believe that all sports clothing should be optimised for the person playing, so it’s great to see cricket clothing specific to girls being created. Comfort means relaxed; relaxed means focused.”

Beth, aged 15, says, “I really respect the idea of feminising cricket as I have had first-hand experience of the prejudice and sexism in the industry. I think Maiden is an inspiring business with very well-designed and functional clothing.”

The products are available to buy from the Maiden website – www.maiden-cricket.co.uk.
