Leanne Kelsall embarked on a mission, to discover the best places to eat around Regent Street, for this article she headed to the American steakhouse, MASH London
MASH, the ‘Modern American Steak House’, serves, yes, you guessed it – STEAK. But not just your standard British sirloin. At MASH you’ll find the finest meats from all four corners of the world and everywhere in between – including Uruguay, Denmark, America, Australia, Japan and Old Blighty herself. And MASH doesn’t do things by halves.
In it’s home – an enormous converted ballroom entered by a sweeping spiral staircase – you’ll see their fine meats on display, front and centre.
For the majority of the beef, the aging takes place in-house. All except one. The Japanese Wagyu. Pricier than the rest, the Kobe Wagyu is specially flown in from Japan. The Wagyu is a rare delicacy and a must-try those who enjoy steak. With a buttery texture and rich, caramel flavours, this high-quality beef is worth every penny.
Other highlights include the on-the-bone rib eye, the delicate fillet and not forgetting the impressive Tomahawk. Struggling for choice? Your well-informed waiter will guide you around the flavours and textures of all the meat on the menu.
Don’t miss the MASH cocktail bar. The showy cocktail book is full of exciting gimmicks, like dry ice and homemade candies, and uses an array of ingredients, like biscuits, ice cream, syrups, teas, vinegars, herbs and spices. You’ll also find some of world’s best whiskeys, rums and bourbons ready for sipping.
