Twyford-based luxury developer Millgate was recognised for its exemplary work at one of the housebuilding industry’s most reputable events of the year, The Sunday Times British Homes Awards 2016. Held at the London Marriott Hotel, Grosvenor Square on 14th October, the company won an award for its exclusive Grade II Listed Woolley Hall estate in Littlewick Green, Berkshire.
The awards, which celebrate and commend excellence in today’s new homes, were announced by Professor Robert Adam, Director of ADAM Architecture and the chair of the panel of judges. The rest of the judging panel consisted of 11 senior figures from across the property industry.
Jonathan Cranley, Sales and Marketing Director for Millgate commented: “It is a privilege to win such a prestigious award for Woolley Hall. Our focus was to remain as true to the original period features of the Grade II Listed building, preserving the history and seamlessly blending traditional architecture with a contemporary specification. Woolley Hall is a prime of example of the exceptional standard that Millgate is well known for.”
Providing a magnificent focal point within this enchanting 24-acre parkland estate, the hall has been carefully converted by Millgate’s master craftsmen into six grand apartments that range in size from 1,500 up to 3,700 sq ft.
As part of the meticulous conservation process, a wealth of original period features has been preserved and incorporated into the new homes, creating a perfect blend of elegant contemporary living within a unique and historic building. Each grand apartment is a statement in individuality and includes features such as decoratively carved wood panelling, ornate plasterwork, elaborate ceilings with decorative motifs, fireplaces and chimneypieces with carvings, and bay windows decorated with heraldic glass. The large numbers of beautiful original stained glass windows, which reflect the house’s history and depict heraldic crests and family coats of arms, have also been painstakingly restored.
Residents of the iconic 18th-century house which is nestled within 24 acres of private parkland have a rare opportunity to live within a history country mansion without the typical responsibilities of maintaining an estate of its size. Each of the homes in the mansion has access to the stunning formal gardens, which have been restored to their former glory. The apartments themselves overlook the beautifully restored cloister, pergola and east gardens, where the ornamental pond and formal gardens were designed and installed by world-famous landscape architect Thomas Mawson in 1918.
On the outskirts of the charming village of Littlewick Green, Woolley Hall enjoys the very finest in English country living in a green and peaceful setting, just 25 miles from London. A highly sought after area, it is an ideal location to indulge in the high life with Ascot, Henley Regatta and Michelin-starred dining at the Fat Duck just a few of the treats close by. Maidenhead railway station, just three miles away, provides direct services to London Paddington in just 20 minutes and the arrival of Crossrail from Maidenhead station will offer even more speedy links with Heathrow Airport and central London. Connections by road are similarly convenient – the A404(M) is just moments away, providing a direct link to the M4 and M40.
All of the apartments at Woolley Hall are now sold.
