Montblanc has presented the Heritage Collection 1912 writing instrument, inspired by the companyʼs early 20th century beginnings, when a group of master-craftsmen developed the original Simplo Safety Filler.
This was a product of the Simplo Filler Pen Company, the venture that set the foundation of what was to one day become Montblanc, the ultimate synonym of “writing culture”, a trademark registered in 1910. Derived from the word “simple”, the Simplo Safety Filler pioneered a design that made it virtually leak-proof when closed, making portable fountain pens a reality.
In the pursuit of setting standards of ingenuity, Montblanc master craftsmen have come together to explore new approaches in engineering and design, combining heritage and cutting-edge technology with a twist of creativity. The cap and barrel of the Heritage Collection 1912 pen is made from deep precious black resin, decorated with polished platinum-plated fittings which hide an advanced two-step screw mechanism that controls both the complex retractable nib movement and the piston filling functions. Produced with skillful geometry, the avant-garde nib is a clever piece of precision engineering. By increasing the nibʼs elasticity and preserving a steady flow of ink through the geometric spreading of the tines, Montblancʼs artisans have succeeded in delivering a nib that ensures a soft writing experience.
The white cap top crowning this masterpiece references the forerunner of the Montblanc emblem, introduced with the first safety fillers. The world-renowned star emblem that symbolises Montblancʼs commitment to highest quality and finest European craftsmanship, is encased in a dome of transparent resin covered with mother-of-pearl coloured lacquer. The 585 solid gold and rhodium-plated nib has also undergone its own evolution. Crafted and polished by hand, it features a triangular-shaped heart hole, specially designed for the Montblanc Heritage Collection 1912. Avant-garde in character, it delivers true personality to any style of writing, ensuring a soft writing experience.
Such cutting-edge innovation in writing technology could only be captured by a visionary who appreciates the mechanics of ingenious evolution. Acclaimed photographer René Staud brings the minimalist aesthetic of the writing instrument to life using the innovative surface illuminating technology that has made him one of the most sought after automotive photographers in the world.
The Heritage Collection 1912 fountain pen is now available in Montblanc boutiques worldwide priced at £725.00 (including VAT).
