The Nasturtium Collection from Birdie Fortescue and Butter Wakefield

Birdie Fortescue will unveil an exclusive homeware collaboration with award-winning garden designer Butter Wakefield to coincide with the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2025. The Nasturtium Collection celebrates the English summer garden and marks Butter’s first foray into interiors.

Between home and garden, Birdie Fortescue and Butter Wakefield share a passion and style for layering with pattern and colour. Friends for many years, the idea to collaborate evolved when Birdie interviewed Butter for a home’ feature in 2024. “I loved Butter’s eclectic approach to tablescaping, full of quietly clashing colours and an abundance of flowers. That’s what we wanted to explore with this collection – how to bring that colourful, creative energy to the table and, in particular, to outdoor entertaining.”

A key motif in the collection is the nasturtium, one of Butter’s favourite summer flowers. Shown here in a lovely mandarin shade of orange, this distinctive printed floral adorns tablecloths, napkins, and a runner, all of which are finished with a smart inset bind.

The design also features on a ricrac-trimmed cushion and quirky drum lampshade, designed as statement pieces in a garden room.

The summer theme continues with a trellis-inspired design boldly used on a tôle tray and planters. “These hand-painted pieces are really special to me,” says Birdie, “as no two are identical. Butter was very keen that the planters be just the right size to make them a practical but chic choice for all plants.” With characteristic flair and attention to detail, the planters are finished with fun, oversized ball feet.

Maypole, a collection of glass pieces, is hand-painted by artisans in a looser, more expressive way. “Butter specified the vase dimensions, right down to the width of the necks, to provide the perfect backdrop for ‘best in show’ summer flowers! We then chose complementary striped colourways – pink with mandarin and blue with green – to coordinate,” says Birdie. A generous large glass vase and luxurious lamp base in two tones of green complete the glass collection.

The finishing touches to this colourful collaboration include new signature striped cushions, pleated lampshades and table linens in bold shades of mandarin, pink, blue and green, thoughtfully designed for summer living. Finally, a Palm Leaf Candlestick epitomises the collection as a celebration of the fusion of Butter’s eclectic tablescaping with Birdie’s classic sense of style.

Butter Wakefield says, “As a garden designer and lover of the great outdoors, I was deeply flattered to be asked to collaborate on Birdie’s latest garden-focused collection. It includes all my favourite colour combinations: pinks, oranges, greens, and blues. It gave me particular pleasure to work hand in hand with Birdie and her clever team to create gorgeous stripey vases, as I so enjoy cutting flowers and bringing them into the house.

“Nothing brings me more delight than creating a little composition with the tray on a coffee table or ottoman. I particularly love the scallop edge and the colour combination on these beautiful trays. Nasturtiums are one of my favourite garden flowers, so this print ticks a lot of boxes for me!’

Birdie Fortescue added, “We are huge fans of Butter Wakefield’s style both in and out of the garden. She is the master of layering both flowers and decoration and has a wonderful eye for colour and pattern. This collection is very special for us as it will be the first time that we are exhibiting at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.”
