Northumberland’s brand-new Tiptoe Retreat has opened with two stylishly designed and sustainable ‘tree cabins’ set within 600 acres of organic and regeneratively farmed land. These new dog-friendly retreats promise rural escapism in the depths of Northumberland with uninterrupted views over the River Till valley and the heather-clad Cheviot Hills of the National Park.
Accommodation Details: Immaculately designed to complement the natural surroundings, both cabins – Howlet (meaning “owl”) and Brock (meaning “badger”) – are distinct in character and design, sleeping up to two guests in superking-sized beds.
While exuding rustic chic on the outside, guests can expect luxury within, featuring the finest modern amenities.
Highlights include sleek kitchens, underfloor heating, and cosy wood-burning stoves, as well as sumptuous outdoor copper baths.
Howlet boasts a living roof, while Brock features an outdoor rope balcony hammock and a skylight above the bed, perfect for stargazing. Guests can also enjoy the spectacular mirrored woodland sauna, which is ideal for unwinding after an active day or indulging in an in-cabin spa treatment.
Disabled Access: The Howlet tree cabin is wheelchair accessible.
Sustainability Features: Sustainability is at the heart of Tiptoe Retreat. The cabins are constructed using timber felled from Tiptoe Wood itself, milled just a few miles away to minimise the carbon footprint. They are powered by solar panels and air-source heat pumps, with water sourced from a private borehole.
Farm-to-door breakfast hampers are available to pre-order, featuring local produce such as meat from nearby butchers, eggs from local farms, and bread baked on-site and delivered fresh to your door.
Experiences: Tiptoe Retreat offers a serene setting while providing a range of optional activities on the farm. Guests can join energising Pilates sessions held in the studio or in their tree cabin, participate in bread-making and wellness workshops with Pauline Beaumont, or enjoy dedicated Retreat Days.
Fishing enthusiasts can try their hand at catching Sea Trout, Salmon, or Grayling, with expert guidance available on the River Till—a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and Special Area of Conservation (SAC). For those who prefer to explore on foot, several circular walks along the River Till wind through nature-rich woodlands.
Nearby Attractions: Beyond the tranquil surroundings of Tiptoe Farm, guests can explore nearby Northumberland National Park and the Scottish Borders. Bike rentals are available to enjoy one of the many trails, or guests can follow the heritage trail through Norham Village and visit the historical sites of Berwick-Upon-Tweed.
For those who love the coast, the breathtaking AONB Northumberland coastline is just a short drive away.
Tiptoe Retreat is available from £185 per night (minimum 2-night stay). To make a booking, visit www.tiptoeretreat.co.uk.
