InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort Welcomes Back Nina Brooke

Artist Nina Brooke Returns to InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort

InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort has announced that contemporary seascape artist Nina Brooke is returning to its idyllic shores for a second residency this festive period.

Following Brooke’s successful inaugural visit to InterContinental Maldives in 2023, she is back by popular demand and will be on the island from 28 December 2024 to 9 January 2025. On this occasion, she will capture the beauty of Raa Atoll, situated at the edge of a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, from a bird’ s-eye perspective.

This two-week residency will include laid-back art classes for guests, individual commissions from the resort’s most beautiful locations, and a carefully curated exhibition of Brooke’s Maldivian seascapes, giving guests the opportunity to take home a unique piece of the island.

Brooke will also be painting a piece dedicated to The Manta Trust, the luxury resort’s long-standing partner. 100% of the proceeds will go towards the charity’s crucial work. InterContinental Maldives is delighted to once again welcome Brooke to the resort, which aims to capture the island’s infinite ocean views, treasured marine life, and surrounding nature from the air and ground.

Sitting on the idyllic Southernmost tip of Raa Atoll, near a juvenile manta ray aggregation spot, the resort supports manta ray research and has its own sustainable initiatives and recycling programmes.

With 81 beach, lagoon and over-water villas and residences, as well as six restaurants and bars, the resort enjoys the peace of a boutique hotel but has the facilities of a world-class resort.

Nina Brooke is an acclaimed British artist, born and raised in the small, ocean-flanked corner of Cornwall. When she is not capturing England’s coastline at home, she is travelling the world, finding inspiration for art, and going to far-flung destinations, such as Sri Lanka and Costa Rica. Brooke studied at Oxford Brookes and Falmouth Art School as well as Newlyn Art School, and she was invited to show her work at Cork St, London, alongside Lucien Freud and Howard Hodgkin.

Festive Residences
Throughout this festive season, InterContinental Maldives has curated a tailored lineup of guest entertainment, including residences with artist Nina Brooke, renowned kids’ entertainers Sharky & George, wellness practitioner Yoko Kawaguchi and leading international chef Thanos Feskos.

Art Classes
For guests looking to explore their creative side, Brooke will be offering five art classes when on the resort. Providing expert advice, techniques and inspiration, Brooke’s classes are available for adults and children of all abilities and will encourage guests to slow down and appreciate the beauty of their natural surroundings.

Exhibition
Spending two weeks on the resort, Brooke will be capturing the island and creating art inspired by the magic of Maamunagau Island. Aerial views and shorelines will be painted from around the resort, and at the end of the residency, a pop-up exhibition will be installed for guests to enjoy and make purchases if they wish – giving them the opportunity to take a part of the resort home.

Art for Charity
Leaving behind a one-of-a-kind piece, Brooke will create a dedicated painting for the Manta Trust. The artwork will be sold in the resort boutique, and the returns will be donated to the charity, which is dedicated to the sustainable future of manta rays and their relatives. InterContinental Maldives is home to a large population of manta rays year-round, and dedicated researchers at the resort spend time educating guests and studying these fascinating marine animals.

Social Media Giveaway
Brooke will also create a unique piece for the resort to keep and display year-round and will also host a social media giveaway on her and the resort’s Instagram platforms upon returning to the UK, gifting one lucky follower one of her original pieces made on the island.
