Back on Preskil Island Resort, and you can be treated to a massage yourself. The hotel, having undergone an extensive renovation, only reopened in May this year. It is home to the 720 square-metre Banyan Spa and Wellness area with eight treatment rooms, a sauna, steam room and relaxation area.
Exhausted from the day’s activities, coupled with kitesurfing lessons, I allowed myself to drift away as the therapist applied butterfly touches to every inch of my body.
If you can peel yourself away from this paradise of a resort, a visit to the fishing village of Mahébourg is well worth a visit. We took to two wheels and cycled around colonial mansions, mosques and fishmongers, and ended up at one of the oldest biscuit factories named Biscuiterie H. Rault.
These biscuits, available in various flavours, are made following a traditional recipe using cassava (a tuberous root), which has remained unchanged since its concoction over 140 years ago. They’re not to everyone’s taste and can seem dry if not dunked in a cup of tea.
But you will get more than biscuits at Preskil Island Resort and will be spoilt for choice with options. Rendez-Vous is the hotel’s main restaurant, and this is where your day starts with a buffet-style breakfast, plus a range of classic and exclusive treats and a selection of exotic fruits. You can dine here for lunch and dinner, but for cooked-on-demand dishes, head to Mosaic.
Your taste buds will be tantalised by flavours typically from across this region. But the showstopper for me was 1810 with its refined and chic cuisine. Located on the beach facing the turquoise lagoon, I indulged in Mauritian specialities for lunch and dinner (mainly seafood).
The servings are huge, which isn’t a bad thing if you want to indulge in a cocktail or two.
Mixologists here are only too happy to prepare cocktails to order both on and off the menu. What’s more, you can even have a go yourself with a cocktail masterclass. You may not be able to kitesurf from the comfort of your home, but you can certainly make your own concoction and raise a glass to your hard efforts at kitesurfing during your stay in this beautiful part of the world.
