Oliver Solberg showcased his commitment to sustainability at Britain’s 2023 Roger Albert Clark Rally when powering through the challenging stages using the sustainable race fuel Carless® Hiperflo® ECO98 R70.
Haltermann Carless, a company of HCS Group and a pioneer of sustainable hydrocarbon solutions, is proud to support World Rally Championship 2 (WRC2) sensation and rally expert Oliver Solberg on his move towards eco-friendly racing.
During Britain’s Roger Albert Clark Rally, Solberg drove through the challenging stages using the sustainable race fuel Carless® Hiperflo® ECO98 R70. The drop-in fuel contains 70% biogenic components, allowing a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to an equivalent super unleaded fully fossil-based fuel.
“Sustainability is key across all forms of motorsport, but rallying is the most relevant to the people in the street actually buying these cars”, says Oliver Solberg, reiterating his appeal for environmental awareness in motorsport and pointing to biofuels and e-fuels as alternatives to conventional fossil 98-octane petrol.
Adrian Stuart, Haltermann Carless’ Head of Performance Fuels Sales UK, says: “Working closely with Motorsport UK, we want to demonstrate a step change in the adoption of more environmentally sound practices to safeguard the environment and reduce the footprint of rallying events.
We are delighted to have partnered with Oliver Solberg and fuel the Ford Mk2 Escort with our sustainable race fuel Hiperflo® ECO 98 R70. We are incredibly proud of Oliver’s performance and the awareness he raised during the rally for sustainable fuel alternatives.”
The Roger Albert Clark Rally 2023 served as a remarkable demonstration of the impressive performance of sustainable fuels while contributing to substantial greenhouse gas emission savings.
Drivers confirm performance of sustainable Hiperflo® ECO98 R70
Despite the setback of a mechanical issue, Solberg’s exceptional performance until his retirement, coupled with the success of the sustainable fuel in his car, underscored the viability of eco-friendly alternatives in competitive racing.
The 2023 Roger Albert Clark Rally saw Oliver Solberg leading by over 5 minutes after SS27, winning an impressive 20 out of 27 stages he took part in. Unfortunately, a mechanical issue during stage 27, a broken driveshaft, forced Solberg to take a maximum time, which dropped him to 4th place with four stages to go, just 2 minutes behind the leader and a mere 27 seconds from 2nd place.
Despite the Viking Motorsport team working through the night to get the car back on the road in a bid to push for at least 2nd place, Oliver had a small compression with a few corners to go, and it lifted him out of the ruts, and unfortunately, he would end up sliding into the infamous Kielder ditches, which put an end to his rally.
Ultimately, the rally was won by Marty McCormack and Barney Mitchell, securing their record-extending fourth win. McCormack and Mitchell also opted for Carless® Racing Fuels, utilising the traditional Hiperflo® Super Plus.
