Luxurious takes a look back at the Omega Constellation Quadrella ladies watch collection
Over the past fifty years the Omega Constellation has evolved at an unstoppable pace. Always up to date with the latest fashions, yet still retaining its timeless classical looks, its unique appeal makes Omega Constellation Quadrella one of the worlds best selling watches and a cornerstone within the Omega collection. The stunning Omega Constellation Quadrella adds an entirely new shape to the ladies Constellation collection and with its smooth tonneau lines it fits perfectly between the existing round and square-shaped cases within the collection. The first models in this new Omega Quadrella collection offer a combination of the classic Constellation attributes and a highly distinctive new look.
The name Quadrella refers to both the shape of the watch and the four diamond-set “claws” on the case. With the soft lines of its rounded barrel-shaped case, the design creates a new niche between the existing round and square models in the collection. Measuring 25mm by 32mm, the polished stainless-steel case is the perfect size for the list of a lady and the mother of pearl dials only serve to underscore the watches strong feminine character.
The Omega Quadrella nevertheless remains a Constellation at heart, as is evidenced by the four claws on the case, each set with 6 diamonds on the front and side (total 48 diamonds, 0.30 ct); the two half-moon facets on the case that provide an elegant transition from the watch case to the integrated polished stainless-steel bracelet; and finally the use of Roman numerals, which in keeping with the Omega Constellation Quadrella‘s distinctive design are printed at the quarter hour positions in two different sizes, the larger ones at 12 oclock and 6 oclock and the smaller ones at 3 oclock and 9 oclock. The overall look the watch is enhanced by the Omega symbol and Constellation star on the dial at 12 oclock and faceted rhodium-plated feuille hands. The Quadrella’s domed scratch resistant sapphire crystal follows the same rounded contours as the case and is coated with an anti-reflective treatment on the inside. Like all Omega watches, the Quadrella benefits from a robust construction and high-quality standards that guarantee water resistance to 30 metres.
The models in the Omega Constellation Quadrella 2004 Ladies Watch Collection
There are three models available in the 2004 Omega Constellation Quadrella collection, all in polished stainless steel. The first of these models has a classic white mother-of-pearl dial with black printed roman numerals and hour markers. The second model has a striking black mother-of-pearl dial with silvered Roman numerals and hour markers. Finally, the third model has a highly original white mother-of-pearl dial set with a dazzling array of precious stones: 2 rubies at 1 o’clock and 7 o’clock, 2 emeralds at 2 o’clock and 8 o’clock, 2 orange sapphires at 4 o’clock and 10 o’clock and 2 blue sapphires at 5 o’clock and 11 o’clock. This combination of classic (ruby and sapphire) and modern (emerald and orange sapphires) precious stone colours marries perfectly with the Quadrella’s classic Constellation features and avant-garde design.
The 2006 Omega Constellation Quadrella Collection
For 2006 the Omega Constellation Quadrella gets a makeover with a fresh range of colours for its wardrobe. The energy of summer comes to life with ‘green anis’, ‘ice blue’, white and red straps complementing the coloured precious stone hour markers and the gleaming white mother-of-pearl dial making this the accessory of the season. Introduced in 2004 (see beginning of this article), the Omega Constellation Quadrella name alludes to its curvaceous shape while the four diamond set “claws” on the case are the classic design reference of this watch family, first introduced in 1952. Characteristics of the Constellation include the strap that is integrated into the stainless steel case by way of two half-moon facets that form an elegant transition between the case and strap. The unusual rounded barrel shape of the case is enhanced by the sparkle of diamonds, a rainbow of precious stones, mother-of-pearl and brightly coloured alligator straps. Two versions of this new version of the Omega Constellation Quadrella are presented in the following versions: the Quadrella (32.60 x 25 mm) on a colourful alligator strap or the “Mini” (25.30 x 19.30 mm) available in stainless steel with a matching metal bracelet with or without diamonds as well as 18-carat red gold or 18-carat red gold/stainless steel versions.
Key to the Omega Constellation Quadrella’s look are the four central claws or “griffes”. This classic design reference has been updated and the claws are now over sized. Further enhancing this feature, on the Quadrella each “griffe” is set with 12 diamonds while on the “Mini” there are 15 of these precious stones on each claw. The use of Roman numerals is also characteristic of the Constellation family but the Quadrella adds a twist by using two different-sized painted quarter numerals. The remaining hour markers on the face are set with rubies, emeralds and blue and orange sapphires that together with the lustre of the mother of pearl dial create a very feminine and individual look. The Omega logo is applied to the dial and complements the tapered, faceted and diamond polished hands. The watches domed scratch resistant sapphire crystal follows the same rounded contours as the case and is coated with an anti reflective treatment on the inside. Like all Omega watches, the Quadrella benefits from a robust construction and high-quality standards that guarantee water-resistance to 30 metres.
True to its origins, the case back of the Omega Constellation Quadrella is decorated with the “Observatory Medallion” that reminds us of Omegas associations with astronomy and space discovery. A shorter deploy ant bar is available on the colour alligator straps or on a new generation of stainless steel bracelets for the “Mini”. Both the straps and bracelets are secured in place with a fold over clasp.
All Omega Constellation Quadrella models are powered by the precision Omega quartz calibre 1376, which has a battery life of 32 months.
