No two bedrooms or suites are the same here, but they all are spacious and boast their own individual charm, décor and disposition. We stayed in the main building which has tons of character and was within easy reach of the bar and restaurant areas. The room was modern compared to the rest of the building with all the creature comforts you can expect from a fine property like this. The balcony overlooking the sea was welcoming and one I made the most of to enjoy a cup of tea each morning ahead of yoga.

Yoga is offered twice daily here (morning and afternoon) at one of their two studios. When you’re visiting a serene place like Bon Sol, it’s easy to feel connected with your inner self. British yoga teacher Sarah Gooderson, who has 24 years of teaching experience under her belt, further helped the group to relax with her positive affirmations and words of encouragement. Other activities include swimming at one of the hotel’s three pools, (plus an integrated children’s pool), table tennis, miniature golf, volleyball and a fitness centre. Those who prefer to pop their feet up can pay a visit to the spa and enjoy the Hamman, steam room, a relaxation area and more.

Food is an integral part of any holiday, and Bon Sol Hotel is not one to lag behind here. With two à la carte restaurants and a snack bar, there’s plenty to choose from even for the fussiest of eaters – they serve both Spanish and international cuisine. I can’t be so close to the sea and not have fish, which as you can imagine is as fresh as you can get. I pretty much chose the catch of the day for most of my meals, while Richard preferred the meatier offerings. Washed down with an ice-cold fruity Sangria, it made it an obvious choice.

Entertainment takes on various forms throughout Bon Sol, and Richard and I happened to be present during the Feria de Abril de Sevilla. Dating back to 1846, the ‘Seville April Fair’ originated in the Andalusian capital of Seville by surprisingly two non-Sevillians with the aim to improve business. The locals soon took to it and it became transformed into a folkloric celebration. Unable to leave the hotel due to the busy time of year, current owners Martin and Lorraine Xamena and their children, have brought the festival to their doorstep. Marked by great food, fine wine, music, and of course, Flamenco dancing, I couldn’t think of a better way to end our trip. Why, we even had a go at dancing ourselves. Keeping in line with the hotel’s original concept of welcoming guests like family, it felt like dancing in a friend’s living room.

Such is the charm and fine traditions of Bon Sol.
