Buzzy New Gifts from The Peninsula Hong Kong to Celebrate the Natural World

As part of its commitment to environmental sustainability and conservation, The Peninsula Hong Kong has introduced a duo of exclusive gifts created in collaboration with Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden (KFBG), including The Peninsula “Bee Sweet, Bee Kind” Bee Hive Gift Set and Pen Bee‧r.

The products have been designed to highlight the role played by some of the most important “artisans” of the natural world and their produce: Bees and honey. Playing a crucial role in protecting vibrant ecosystems, this humble food-producing insect has been benefiting humanity, plants, and the planet for centuries.

By spreading pollen amongst flowers, bees enable many plants, including food crops, to reproduce, making an important contribution to the global food supply. The vast majority of flowering plant species propagate through pollination; without bees and other pollinators, it will lead to the extinction of many flora species.

“As one of the region’s most prominent conservation entities, KFBG has been spearheading nature conservation and sustainability programmes – including a 30-year tradition of nurturing native bees. The new partnership between KFBG and The Peninsula Hong Kong reflects the shared environmental ethos of these two venerable Hong Kong establishments,” said Joseph Chong, Regional Vice President of Asia and Managing Director at The Peninsula Hong Kong.

The Peninsula “Bee Sweet, Bee Kind” Bee Hive Gift Set
The first “buzzy” new collaborative offering, The Peninsula “Bee Sweet, Bee Kind” Bee Hive Gift Set, is both inspired by and partly produced by the inhabitants of KFBG’s 40 bee hives. A beautifully crafted wooden box contains a 40 g jar of KFBG’s own rarefied, small-batch honey – along with a customised honey dipper, a wooden coaster, a Pen Bee pin, an educational story booklet, and two admission tickets to KFBG to discover the beauty of the farm and apiary.

The honey produced by KFBG is renowned for its delicate and delicious flavour. The resident indigenous bees feast on high-altitude flowering trees species like lychee, longan, Chinese Guger, Chinese holly and Hong Kong gordonia. The nectar from these plants lends the bees‘ honey a rich, nuanced sweetness with subtle hints of fruit and floral botanicals; it also infuses the honey with high-nutrient antioxidants.

As well as providing an exquisite, sweet taste of Hong Kong, The Peninsula “Bee Sweet, Bee Kind” Bee Hive Gift Set offers guests a unique opportunity to contribute to the region’s sustainability with proceeds directly supporting the conservation effort of KFBG, including the cultivation of local bees, which benefits native plant species and the ecosystem. Purchasing this gift for a loved one gives a gift to nature, too.

The Peninsula “Bee Sweet, Bee Kind” Bee Hive Gift Set is available from the hotel’s e-Shop, priced at HK$ 1,700 while stock lasts.

Bee Keeping at Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden
From its early history as an experimental farm teaching agricultural skills to immigrants, Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden has evolved into one of Hong Kong’s most important nature conservation entities, which has been keeping bees for more than 30 years.

Today, the apiary keeps only native bees in its more than 40 bee hives, which produce a limited volume of honey annually. Due to the altitude of the location of KFBG – more than 550 metres above sea level – and the bees’ high-elevation nectar sources, the honey produced at the KFBG has its own unique flavour.

The integration of beekeeping into KFBG’s operations not only contributes to biodiversity but also to nature conservation. As active pollinators, bees require no water consumption and no fertiliser, thus providing only benefits to fields, fruit orchards, and the ecosystem.
