The Chinese New Year begins on 12th February 2021, marking the year of the OX. Arnold & Son are celebrating this with a limited edition Perpetual Moon Year of the Ox featuring a buffalo symbolising strength, dialogue and appeasement.
Swiss-based Arnold & Son are marking the 2021 Chinese New year with a watch defined by the Ox the powerful animal represented this year. The brand has combined its Perpetual Moon model with a Buffalo design creating an exclusive limited-edition timepiece. Just eight beautiful pieces will be produced so you will be exceptionally fortunate to wear one.
Using specific minerals the watch takes on different colours in daylight and then the dark.
Yellow gold and specular haematite dominate by day, and at night the scene lights up. The watch features a large moon in the night-sky which forms the dial of this luxury and desirable piece of art.
A disc turns in a large opening showing the Moon’s age, the appearance of its crescent and light intensity. Crafted from Mother of Pearl, reflecting light wonderfully, the Moon has its shadows hand-painted and coated with Super-Luminova.
It is almost white in the daylight while in darkness, it lights from within taking on a new aspect, with details emerging. The constellation which appears further along on the disc has been created using the same methods. The alligator-skin strap also incorporates haematites that glitter due to silvery flakes in their composition.
The buffalo with immense horns is the unique and exclusive signature of this limited series, standing imposingly, at 6 o’clock. It is a miniature gold sculpture featuring the beast in a majestic pose. Multi-storey pagodas, hand-painted with gold powder form the background.
These temples are lit up from the interior at night, as the windows have been painted with Super-LumiNova. The Perpetual Moon watch appears to be inhabited due to these features.
