Since the beginning of the motion picture, there’s been an ongoing love affair between food and film. From popcorn in cinemas to cosy nights with a movie and meal, the two complement each other beautifully.
This summer sees the return of the Pop-Up Picture Company, which specialises in combining al fresco fine dining and popular movies at a number of luxurious locations.
Some may recognise the name as the Pop-Up Picture Company is a follow-up to the successful Pop-Up Picture House, which sold out tickets for gastronomic film nights in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, at the Old Town Hall.
With great feedback and a demand for more, the company’s founders – celebrity chef Tom Kerridge and friend Chris Hughes- set out to make this something of a recurring blockbuster, and unlike so many sequels, it doesn’t disappoint.
This summer’s incarnation delivers a stunning menu designed by iconic chef Rick Stein, and given the culinary names involved, the event’s first venue, Buckinghamshire’s luxurious Cliveden House venue, is already sold out. Fortunately, dates are still available to attend the Pop-Up Picture Company’s second destination, the glamorous Chewton Glen Hotel.
Running from the 9th of July to the 23rd of July, guests at the five-star Chewton Glen Hotel will enjoy Rick Stein’s mouth-watering menu in 139 acres of greenery, woodland and gorgeous gardens. Right on the edge of the New Forest and with the Solent coast almost in touching distance, the view itself will rival even the most mesmerising of cinematic experiences.
In these stunning surroundings, you can expect to watch film classics such as Dirty Dancing and Forest Gump, visual triumphs like The Great Gatsby and La La Land, romance-fuelled dramas including Pride & Prejudice and Mamma Mia and much more. In short, there’s something for even the pickiest film viewer to enjoy.
In terms of food, Rick Stein will be serving up an abundance of locally sourced culinary delights that you can enjoy whilst the film rolls. As a master of all things seafood, you can expect plenty of extraordinary fish dishes as well as lamb and vegetarian options. For all those with a sweet tooth, Kerridge will be scooping out his famous handmade ice cream, served straight to the crowds ‘usherette style’.
