Yesterday, Tesla’s extraordinary Cybertruck experienced its first European road test when H.S.H. Prince Albert II got behind the wheel of the state-of-the-art pick-up, driving it through the streets of the Principality, wowing onlookers.

After an official presentation on the Place du Casino in Monaco, complete with a spectacular light show, Prince Albert II drove the Cybertruck to the Grimaldi Forum for the opening of the Top Marques Monaco supercar show.

This 48-hour stopover in Monaco is part of the Cyber Odyssey, a European tour organised by Tesla. This futuristic pick-up truck will be travelling to around a hundred destinations in Europe, from Lisbon to Helsinki.

More practical than a pick-up and more powerful than a sports car, the Cybertruck is equipped with ‘steer by wire’ steering, which, combined with steered front and rear wheels, gives it a turning circle smaller than that of most saloon cars. Another stand-out feature of the Cybertruck is its towing capacity of almost 5 tonnes, which makes it powerful enough to tow the equivalent weight of an African elephant.

As its appearance would indicate, it is also as very spritely on the roads. The high-performance Cyberbeast version is capable of going from 0 to 100 km/h in a scant 2.7 seconds.

As one would expect, given his affection for motoring, Prince Albert II seemed perfectly at ease as he manoeuvred the vehicle with its iconic design from the Place du Casino towards Port Hercule, in the company of Mathieu Lenglin, the Director of Tesla France.

Fifteen minutes later, the Cybertruck arrived at the Grimaldi Forum, where the Sovereign Prince drove onto the Esplanade and parked the vehicle at the entrance to the supercar show.

“The test drive went very well. It felt incredible because you don’t feel the weight of this big pick-up at all, and it’s still very manoeuvrable and easy to drive. H.S.H. Prince Albert II seemed delighted to drive the Cybertruck and was very interested, asking lots of technical questions. I think he would even have liked to drive it for several kilometres,” said Mr Garcia, Director of Top Marques Monaco.

The Cybertruck will be displayed at Top Marques from Wednesday, June 5, to Thursday, June 6, before continuing its European tour.
