The Floatie Humidifier
Working from home is not always a bed of roses. Some of us are now working in areas far less capacious than we were previously used to and let’s be honest, it can get a bit stuffy in a small area.
Over the years, I’ve come close to buying a humidifier when browsing the shelves of a high-end department store and then asked myself, “would I really use it?” The probable reason I’ve always shied-away is that I don’t actually know what the benefits of having one are. Obviously, they put moisture into the air, but is this something I’d need working from home? I decided to search the internet for some answers and quickly discovered what I’d been missing:
A US study has shown that making the air around you more humid helps to stop you catching the flu as virus particles rapidly deactivate making them less infectious
Breathing in dry air can cause a dry, unproductive cough. Adding moisture to the air makes any cough more productive, releasing all of the bad stuff.
A humidifier also helps the way you look. It helps to keep your skin and hair moist which reduces the problems of itchy eyes, cracked lips and flaky skin.
Given what we’re experiencing around the world this year, the above are some prime reasons for having a humidifier in a home working environment. This is where the Kikkerland Floatie comes to the rescue. When I’ve considered purchasing a humidifier in the past, aside from the usage, the size of one has always been a negative. My desk space is prime real estate, and if I am going to have something, it needs to be small. The good news is the Floatie Humidifier is tiny!
When I saw the box it came in, I wasn’t holding out much hope. And my initial view didn’t change when I took it out of the box. It was so small, I couldn’t see how it could do the job, this instantly changed once it touched the water.
The Floatie is a two-inch-wide circular white device with a USB cord attached to it it. The simplest way to describe it is it looks like an inflatable ring you’d see in a swimming pool. When I think about it, the design is probably deliberate.
To use the Floatie Humidifier, all you need is a glass or bowl of water. You pop the humidifier onto the water, plug it in, and that’s it! What really surprised me was how effective it was, it was akin to a mini volcano. It sat on top of the water and created a very impressive plume, and after adding a few drops of scented oil to the water, the ambience in the room was a lot better.
Did it help with regards to the health benefits I mentioned earlier? Well, I haven’t caught anything yet, and I don’t seem to have any problems with cracked skin or itchiness!
This is a great ‘less is more’ product. It takes up hardly any space on the desk, is very inconspicuous and the only time it became noticeable was when I had put it in the wrong place during a video call, and someone asked what was burning!
The Floatie Humidifier is priced at £9.99 and can be purchased here.
