The results of the collaboration between luxury British marque Rolls-Royce Motor Cars and renowned photographer Rankin are to be showcased to the public for the first time, at the Rankin Gallery in Los Angeles, USA on 16 – 23 November 2011.
During the year-long Rolls-Royce commission, Rankin has captured 100 images inspired by the Spirit of Ecstasy, the figurine famed for its prominent and defining position on the bonnet of every Rolls-Royce. The project offered Rankin full artistic licence to create a modern and very personal interpretation of the legendary ‘flying lady’, with spectacular results.
Rankin’s Spirit of Ecstasy Photograph exploration of the contemporary Spirit of Ecstasy incorporates a variety of themes: power, the beauty of age, intrigue and mystery, speed and whirlwind blend with materials, fabrics and paint to create a stunning array of photographic portraits, with global appeal. The work features women of a range of ages and cultures, each chosen for their symbolic representation of the femininity, grace and mystery of the Spirit of Ecstasy.
On 17 November 2011, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars will host an exclusive Spirit of Ecstasy reception at the Rankin Gallery in Los Angeles, attended by Rankin, media and VIP guests. The Spirit of Ecstasy Photograph exhibition will feature 80 of the full set of 100 portraits, with a further selection available to view at the Rolls-Royce Motor Cars stand at the Los Angeles Auto Show on 18 – 27 November 2011.
