In his quest to discover the best way to celebrate the festive season, Stefano Andrean explores the Diamond in the Sky festive offering from Searcys the Gherkin
Christmas is coming soon and the usual ordeal presents itself for the well-heeled of London – ‘where should we go out?’.
Well, here’s an idea that should be somewhere near the top of your tree; head to the uppermost two floors of the Gherkin, where Searcys are going to be putting on a Christmas extravaganza with snowflakes, glitzy decorations, champagne aplenty and real diamonds.
The renowned London landmark is already one of the hottest destinations in the city, and this December you can survey the ‘wintery’ capital from your 180m-perch, drinking the finest champagne and a festive diamond-inspired afternoon tea.
Searcys the Gherkin will be hosting three types of decidedly decadent Afternoon Teas. During each sitting, every guest has a ‘diamond’ in their champagne flute. While most will be of the faux variety, for one lucky guest, Christmas will come early and their diamond will be the real thing. Try not to swallow it, then.
To go along with the customary team of Champagne specialists at Searcys, this year they will also be joined by a diamond expert to add some extra authenticity to the experience and giving them the complete knowledge of everything that ‘sparkles’.
Even if you aren’t the lucky soul that ends up with the diamond, the hand-crafted cakes, parties, cheesecakes, macaroons, festive mince pies and a fine array of finger sandwiches should ensure your Christmas is suitably merry.
As well as the three hosted Afternoon Teas, the Diamond in the Sky installation will be running throughout the whole of December and will be welcoming the public as well as the members of the club who are usually to only ones to be able to access to these exclusive floors. Lunch and dinner will be served with the beautiful views from the 39th floor and 40th floor ensures a stunning Christmas celebration.
And to see the year out in style, Searcys is also hosting New Year’s Eve. As you would expect from a building with a vista such as this, the views of the city’s fireworks are spectacular. Guests have the usual expertise of Searcys’ champagne connoisseurs at their disposal along with a special rare wine accompanied menu. A fine way to see in 2017.
