British Furntiture Make Smallbone Unveils New Desk And Wine Wall

Smallbone, the British furniture manufacturer releases details of their two latest products, an exquisite, handcrafted wine wall and a substantial desk drawing inspiration from London architecture

For over 40 years, Smallbone has built its excellent reputation on fine craftsmanship. First and foremost, they’re known throughout the world for their beautiful kitchens and such is their reputation for quality, having a Smallbone kitchen within a property becomes one of the major features when it comes to selling a home.

The essence of Smallbone is the consummate skill of its joiners who work using traditional craft techniques. Working by hand with a plethora of materials, including the finest timbers such as sustainable European oak, rosewood, mahogany, American walnut and maple. The name of the joiner who has created each piece of furniture is inscribed on it as an ownership of craft.

For the past decade and a half, SMallbonehas been moving further into the world of bespoke cabinetry and this can be seen in landmark developments in London, Dubai and New York City. The same craftsmanship found in its renowned kitchens extends to Smallbone’s home-based designs, the wine wall and the first of the two products we’ll be looking closer at, the desk.

Smallbone-desk-1

The new freestanding desk is a substantial piece of furniture inspired by the quoined detailing of London’s Georgian architecture.

The desk was designed by Smallbone’s Creative Director Andrew Hays and is a true statement piece measuring in at 2.4m x 1.2 m – big enough for the spreading of papers – but it is fully flexible in size. The solid walnut, crown-cut veneered surfaces are finished with a soft-touch lacquer and its top is equally as tactile, in-laid with British leather.

The desk boasts concealed privacy drawers and is finished with a polished nickel recessed trim on its expertly tapered edges. Drawers and handles are accentuated with leather embossed with the Smallbone logo. Smallbone has always drawn upon historic architectural references when designing its furniture, and this desk is no exception. The intricate scalloped detailing and bevelled edges celebrate the prodigious talents of Smallbone’s joinery team and showcase its repertoire of furniture making.

The second of the new products is the Wine Wall and its ground-breaking wine storage system.

As kitchen and dining hubs evolve, homeowners are keen to showcase their wine collections outside of the traditional cellar environment. Smallbone of Devizes has found that while many clients may have a dedicated wine room, they are increasingly looking to display and keep their finest vintages to hand for entertaining.

Andrew Hays, Smallbone’s Creative Director, has designed the perfect complement with its innovative new Wine Wall system – a solution that is not only a beautifully handcrafted piece of furniture but will also display and preserve the collection in technically flawless conditions.

Incorporating the renowned Wine Guardian conditioning unit, the wine storage system prevents vibration, eliminates UV rays, and invisible grills circulate the airflow to ensure the perfect temperature and humidity levels remain consistent.

A beautiful laser-cut leather panel – which can also be made of metal or timber veneer – backs the bottles. Almond gold plated racks, a full lighting control system and UV-stable tinted frameless glass with mitred corners conspire to create a clean, architectural look. The bottles appear to float in mid-air, with light cutting across them to create a focal point for any entertaining space.
