Smart TMS has launched a free mental health helpline to provide support for those struggling with mental health concerns brought about by COVID-19, as the Ministry of Defence reports that it has cut their helpline for vulnerable veterans.
The helpline is one of the only support lines in the UK to offers callers direct counsel and advice from trained mental health practitioners as early as the next day. It is a service which represents a vital alternative to other helplines, which have been cut amidst the Coronavirus crisis, as well as oversubscribed NHS talking therapies and other charity helplines whose waiting lists can stretch into several weeks or months.

Gerard Barnes, CEO of Smart TMS, discusses comments on the launch of Smart TMS’ helpline and discusses the importance of providing extra help for veterans and other individuals who have lost essential sources of support:
“It is extremely saddening to hear that the Ministry of Defence has cut their veterans’ support helpline, which provided vital counsel and support for thousands of vulnerable veterans across the country and have left them isolated and in vital need of help.
We are proud to offer free mental health support to people across the country whose mental wellbeing has been adversely affected by the outbreak of the Coronavirus, and we are committed to providing a lifeline for the thousands of individuals in the UK, including this country’s veterans, who are struggling with their mental wellbeing at this time and beyond.”
