The Solar Aqua Prima Abyss, a Timepiece Inspired by the Past

Below, we take a closer look at the Prima Abyss, a watch with a futuristic design inspired by a late-1950s creation from the Swiss-Canadian brand Solar Aqua.

Drawing inspiration from the past, Prima Abyss is a limited edition collection of 300 watches that pays homage through its lines and style to the Solar Aqua Prima 7951 model from 1958. It is a timepiece that serves as a bridge between the past and the future.

The watch retains the distinctive features of the original case, reinterpreted in 42mm 316L stainless steel. It has a screw-down crown, a closed case back, and lugs with classic proportions.

A steel version of the new timepiece with a black dialOne of its most captivating design features is the central counter, a tribute to the original concept: the hours are marked at the centre, while the minutes and seconds are displayed on the periphery.

This tribute to the past is enriched by a nod to the brand’s North American roots. Through stylistic and symbolic details, Prima Abyss evokes the grandeur of Canadian mountains, such as Mount Odin and Mount Zeus—symbols of beauty and challenge. Simultaneously, its engineering precision celebrates the Swiss watchmaking tradition, highlighting the strong bond between these two lands.

The dial, available in shades like black, military green, navy blue, and deep red, is a masterpiece of design. Its three-tiered structure features a sophisticated radial guilloché finish, creating a kaleidoscopic, iridescent effect.

The prominent date window draws attention, while the hands narrate mythological tales: the hour hand recalls Odin’s spear, the second hand resembles the trident of the same Norse god, and the minute hand evokes Zeus’s lightning bolt.

The coordinates of the two mountains are engraved on the case side, making each watch unique, complemented by a serial number near the lugs.

The hands and markers, treated with Super-LumiNova, ensure readability even in low-light conditions. Unlike its predecessor, Prima Abyss is a sporty watch with elegant lines, making it suitable for any occasion—not just extreme sports.

Tested to conquer rugged peaks and explore abyssal depths, it withstands water pressure up to 200 meters, living up to its name.

The closed case back, laser-etched with a map of Canada, highlights the locations of Mount Zeus and Mount Odin—symbols of unity across the country’s extremes. Inside is a precision F328 Peseux movement, customised for Solar Aqua.

Prima Abyss is a timepiece designed for extreme sports yet refined for uncompromising style, making it suitable for any occasion. With this creation, a limited edition of only 300 pieces, Solar Aqua pays a dual tribute to Switzerland and North America, places where the brand was born and which continue to inspire every detail, blending natural beauty with watchmaking mastery.
