Storrs Hall, the luxury four-star hotel on the shores of Lake Windermere, has named Cumbria Wildlife Trust as its charity partner of the year for 2020 while also announcing an exclusive event in celebration of the Osprey – one of the rarest birds in the UK.

With Cumbria home to one of just two Osprey nesting sites in England, bird enthusiasts who come to the Lakes can enjoy a sight rarer than Golden Eagles in the UK – and Storrs Hall is looking to highlight and celebrate this fact in the form of its Osprey talk.

Taking place on the 29th of April 2020, the hotel will host a special buffet-style afternoon tea in its lake view restaurant before handing it over to Paul Waterhouse, Southern Reserve Officer at Cumbria Wildlife Trust.

Paul will share with guests the latest news on the Ospreys that breed at nearby Foulshaw Moss each Spring. There are also plans for a live stream to broadcast footage of the birds from their nesting site during the presentation.

Andrew Nicholson, General Manager at Storrs Hall, said, “We’re incredibly proud to be located in an area of such natural beauty and are delighted to announce the Cumbria Wildlife Trust as our chosen charity partner for 2020.

The conservational work that they carry out is hugely important in raising environmental awareness and preserving our county’s wildlife, and we look forward to teaching guests more about the rare and beautiful Ospreys that nest nearby.”

Lowland raised mires like Foulshaw Moss, which is just a 30-minute drive from Storrs Hall, are one of Western Europe’s rarest and most threatened habitats.

Around 94% of this unique habitat has been destroyed or damaged in the UK, so these remaining areas are incredibly important for a range of wildlife, including butterflies, moths, insects and birds such as the Osprey.

These magnificent birds of prey are known to hunt for fish in the South Lakeland area, and visitors can enjoy the sight of them soaring above the moss from a viewing platform in the reserve.

As Ospreys have also been seen on Lake Windermere, Storrs Hall has named one of its new Lakeside Suites ‘Osprey’ in recognition of the majestic birds.

Built during a £1m investment programme, the Lakeside Suites sit in an area of woodland adjacent to the main hotel and offer a unique combination of uncompromised luxury and elevated views over Lake Windermere.

Featuring beautiful hardwood floors, a super king-size bed and a Lakeland slate terrace with a cedar wood Japanese Bathing Tub, the lakeside suites provide the perfect place for guests to unwind and soak up the location’s serene ambience whilst watching the sunset.

Tickets for the Afternoon Tea and Osprey Talk cost £22.50, with £3 from every ticket sale going to Cumbria Wildlife Trust. Tickets can be bought online via https://storrshall.wearegifted.co.uk/osprey-talk or by calling Storrs Hall on 015394 47111.
