Those looking for a grown-up’s only escape after the intensity of the childcare juggle, which is the school summer holidays, might like the peaceful Lakeside Suites on the shores of Windermere at Storrs Hall in the Lake District.
Every suite is self-contained, set apart from the Main House, on a rocky outcrop with the waters of England’s largest lake just a dawdle away. Vast in size, with sliding glass walls to make the most of the breathtaking views over the lake or wild woodland, each suite comes complete with its own private terrace with loungers and a Japanese-style cedar wood hot tub.
Interiors are luxurious and contemporary, with a colour palette inspired by the surrounding nature. There are enormous beds, double chaise longues, a small dining set up to make the most of room, the room service menu, plus throws and an eco-fuel real-flame for when the Autumn days are cooler.
The bathrooms are huge, with freestanding baths (complete with TV for a bubble-bath movie), walk-in showers, double sinks and floor-to-ceiling windows, so the views continue.
In terms of food, guests don’t need to leave their suite as room service can be brought, along with a morning hamper for a decadent breakfast in bed (or on the terrace). Those who fancy a change of scenery can enjoy relaxed lunches and dinners in the new Bistro or breakfast and a more formal dinner in the Lake Edge Restaurant.
Some of the Lake District’s best walking and cycling routes are nearby, and Storrs Hall can arrange guided sessions on everything from SUP to clay pigeon shooting.
A stay in a Lakeside Suite this Autumn costs from £628 per night, including breakfast and arrival treats. To find out more, please visit www.storrshall.com.
