Prepare to be wined, dined and dazzled with the new Blossom City tasting menu at London’s Canary Wharf restaurant Plateau, says Reena Patel
My senses were filled with florals and a feeling of summer romance during this gastronomic experience, starting with a glass of chilled champagne and super-fresh oysters locally sourced from Colchester. Each morsel was well dressed with Asian inspired zingy ingredients of ginger, lemon and coriander along with a dash of Tobasco to give it a further kick.
We then were then treated to the six-course tasting menu itself – an epicurean trail created by talented Executive Chef Daniel McGarey. Each dish is so pretty on presentation, with joyful scatterings of edible flowers and bright ingredients – all gently paired with carefully chosen fine crisp wines of the white variety to avoid imposing on the delicate flavours of each dish. The menu in its entirety is kept fresh and light but still satisfyingly filling.
A comforting Amuse-bouche of creamy white tomato veloute arrived with a juicy sun blushed tomato and smidgen of mozzarella to draw out the soup’s flavours. True to the style of British summer drinking, a vibrant gin fizz tipple washes down the course.
We next tucked into seared Orkney scallops presented in a jewel-green oyster and lettuce veloute with lovage and flaked almonds and oyster tempura with oyster mayonnaise. Next up was the Jersey Royal risotto made of potatoes instead of rice, with broad beans and Cornish leaves and a sunshine yellow poached egg yolk cutely dolloped in the middle to brighten up the plate.
For the next course, I enjoyed a well seared rose veal rump with broad beans, asparagus, sweet breads and potato, while my guest enjoyed a ‘summery’ puff pastry tart filled with goats curd, quinoa and topped with garden vegetables.
The menu follows with a palate-cleansing gin jelly and light lemon mousse to get you prepared for the sweet finale – a wondrous marvel called a ‘Basket of Blossom Surprises’. Bursting with beauty, the decadent chocolate and caramel dessert is showcased alongside another sparkly surprise; a gorgeous cocktail ring made with Swarovski Elements by Cadenzza, a designer jewellery boutique that’s part of the Swarovski Group.
The Blossom City Tasting Menu is available for a limited time only until 30th June. During #BlossomCity, D&D London restaurants will raise funds for the Lady Garden campaign by adding a discretionary £1 donation to each table bill.
