Vianney Halter originates from Suresnes on the outskirts of Paris France. His insatiable appetite for engineering and mechanics dates back to his childhood. This incredible passion inspired him to enrol at the youthful age of fourteen into the prestigious Ecole Horlogère de Paris. Over the next few decades he would gain extensive experience within the industry culminating in the foundation of his own company.
In 2011 Vianney Halter was bestowed with the incredible honour of Best Watchmaker-Designer at Le Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève. It is clear to see why his numerous peers admire this amazing artisan. Not only is he a brilliant craftsman but also he is a wonderful designer. The Deep Space Tourbillon is definitely testament to his extraordinary skills. In my humble opinion this is undoubtedly his ‘Magnum opus’
With dimensions of 50 mm x 53 mm x 20 mm the timepiece is massively proportioned. Amazingly the weight of the Deep Space Tourbillon is a mere 90 grams. This is down to the lightweight grade 5 titanium used in constructing this sublime creation. Realistically I would imagine the choice of high performance material and intuitive design should make this a comfortable watch to wear. This formidable timepiece would certainly make a bold visual statement if worn to a formal dinner party.
Aesthetically the design of this watch is mind blowing and draws inspiration from Sci Fi movies. The silhouette of timepiece actually looks like a space ship. Vianney Halter has cleverly created this illusion by encapsulating the watch in dome sapphire crystal. The skeleton dial is mesmerizing and showcases all the technical brilliance of the stunning tourbillon. Overall the three dimensional composition works perfectly. I love the cool special peripheral curved shape hour and minute hands.
Underneath the seductive exterior lies the phenomenally complicated Triple Axis Central Tourbillon caliber VH 113 movement. This mechanical marvel comprises 41 jewels and oscillates at a frequency of 21,600 v.p.h. All elements of this masterpiece are entirely developed and made in house.
