The Gulai House restaurant re-opens on April 12, 2012 in a stunning new rainforest location within the lush tropical gardens of The Datai Langkawi, Malaysia.
Nestled amidst the tall dense jungle and surrounded by native trees and exotic flowers, The Gulai House has a spectacularly romantic new home at The Datai Langkawi. The restaurant blends seamlessly into the pristine natural setting at the iconic resort. The Gulai House’s Malay style thatched-roofed timber design exudes a “rustic chic” feel within its open style dwelling, allowing dinners to fully appreciate the beauty and uniqueness of dining in a rainforest in this new “Kampung style” setting.
Chef Rihazul Othman’s menus for The Gulai House, under the direction of The Datai Langkawi Executive Chef Conny Andersson, offer a unique blend of Malay cuisine with an Indian touch. Translated as “Curry House”, The Gulai House is a place to experience Malay and Indian cuisines in their traditional art forms, authentically prepared yet freshly presented in a setting that is uniquely Langkawi.
The new a la carte menu offers diners a range of Malay starters (including the Campur-Campur Gulai House sampler platter) and fragrant soups followed by some sublime BBQ seafood alongside regional spiced grilled dishes. Also on offer are flavoursome wok stir fries, traditional curries, noodles and tandoori baked dishes served with cucumber raita and house made tamarind chutneys. Favourite local-inspired desserts offer the ideal finish. A well curated wine list is part of the mix, and while the setting is open and relaxed, service is informed, thoughtful and sublime. With its superb location and inspired menus, The Gulai House will continue to be a “foodie” destination in its own right for Malaysian and international diners.
Anthony A. Sebastian, General Manager for The Datai Langkawi commented, “It is with great excitement that we re-open The Gulai House on April 12, as it is a much loved dining experience and the stunning new setting provides a unique experience which will only add to the many special offerings here at The Datai Langkawi”.
The Gulai House is open seven days a week to guests of The Datai Langkawi as well as visitors by reservation.
