A relative newcomer to the Malaysian hospitality scene, the 5-Star Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur adds, even more glamour and refinement to this vibrant capital city.
Oozing restrained glamour, the hotel is located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC), next to the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre and a stone’s throw away from the iconic Petronas Twin Towers. Indeed guests staying at the Grand and Club View rooms have postcard-perfect views of the Twin Towers from their floor-to-ceiling windows. Upon arrival, guests are ushered to the 38M Floor, the highest level of the building where the sky lobby is located. With commanding views of Kuala Lumpur’s skyline and the Petronas Twin Towers as a backdrop, checking-in has never been such a captivating experience.
With 370 guests room and 42 suites, Hong Kong-based interior designers Bilkey Llinas Designs deserves a pat on their back for creating modern and contemporary rooms yet which retain a warmth and sensuality which sometimes seem to lack in a city or business hotel. With the use of natural materials like marble and wood and a neutral and earthy palette, the rooms, which happen to be some of the largest available in Kuala Lumpur, starting at 47 square meters, exudes a relaxed and sophisticated ambiance. The rooms are all equipped with the hi-tech conveniences such as MP3 docking station and high-speed wired and wireless internet access. The glass enclosed shower in some rooms can be seen from the bedroom but with just a flick of a switch, the glass wall magically becomes opaque. What’s also impressive is the built-in sensors which detect the guest’s presence and adjust the lighting and temperature accordingly.
When it comes to dining options, again, the Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur never fails to impress.
THIRTY8 is located; yes you guessed correctly, on the 38th floor and occupy the entire floor with a 360-degree view of the city. The delectable fare on offer includes a wide range of Western, Chinese and Japanese dishes. Particularly noteworthy are the fried crab cakes served with roasted bell peppers relish and rocket leaves, the Rib Eye Australian Wagyu and the restaurant’s signature dessert, the Thirty8 signature cake served with banana ice cream and presented with dry ice. Executive Chef Tommy Franssila showcases his skill and experience with flair and a deft touch. Open show kitchens provide a glimpse into how the food is prepared. A bar and lounge with a live band complete this memorable dining experience.
JP teres, located on the ground floor features Malaysian street food and is a favourite with the lunchtime crowds. A comfortable outdoor area where the bar is located is popular with the beau monde especially after work and on weekends.
For a special treat, the Friday night BBQ by the Poolside is something to look forward to, especially after a particularly hectic week. Raw seafood, steaks and various other meats are laid out for the diner to choose and it is cooked there and then. The glittering lights from the surrounding buildings reflected on the oval-shaped swimming pool create a romantic setting.
A spa is located on the same level as the pool as well as the 24-hour fitness centre. For those who have over-indulged at dinner or who have just flown in and want to counter the effects of jet-lag, there couldn’t be a more suitable way than to have a good workout before heading back to your room for a good and comfortable night’s sleep.
