With the easing of travel restrictions and the reopening of the tourism and hospitality sectors comes some great news, the Malt Whisky Trail is returning for 2021!
The Malt Whisky Trail is something every serious whisky fan needs to experience at some point in their lives. In what will come as excellent news to many, the ‘Trail’ will be making its long-awaited return on the 26th of April, allowing fans to journey across Scotland, cram their minds with new information and taste the finest drams.
Many of Scotland’s finest centres of whisky excellence are already primed and ready to open their doors on Monday, including Glen Moray, The Glenlivet and Glen Grant.
Iain Allan, the Brand Ambassador at Glen Moray Distillery, said, “After a long winter in lockdown, distillery teams across The Trail are looking forward to greeting Speyside locals yearning for a day trip as well as ‘staycationers’ venturing from all over the UK.
In addition to visiting some of the most world-renowned distilleries, tourists will have the opportunity to experience some of the best food, drink, and natural beauty Speyside has to offer.
“With special measures in place to ensure the safety of both visitors and staff, we’ve adjusted our services to ensure visitors are able to taste and purchase our whisky, be it in slightly smaller groups or as part of a designated driver pack.
“For anyone planning to visit a site along The Trail, should contact sites directly to check opening details and book in advance as offerings will vary.”
What to experience on The Malt Whisky Trail
Glenlivet, Strathisla and Glen Moray Distilleries will be reopening their retail shops and offering new outdoor tastings for visitors, while GlenGrant Distillery will be reopening their retail store for guests to purchase their favourite whiskies.
The Dallas Dhu, Strathisla, Speyside Cooperage, Benromach and Cardhu will all be announcing their reopening schedules soon.
The Speyside region of Scotland has the greatest concentration of distilleries anywhere in the world. The knock-on effect of this is it is also the largest contributor to the malt whisky industry globally. The Speyside region is so intertwined with whisky that it is said that three out of every five visitors come specifically for whisky tourism.
There are nine iconic whisky sites making up the ‘Trail’. It takes visitors on a journey through the beautiful Moray Speyside region, where they can discover the best Malt whisky. Along the way, they’ll experience some incredible landscapes, amazing food and of course, whisky.
Visitors will get the opportunity to fill their minds with information about the history of the industry from local whisky masters from the Speyside Cooperage and the historic Dallas Dhu Distillery alongside a plethora of additional experiences.
