Sourcing antique furniture and vintage accessories can feel like an uphill task. Often, homeowners don’t know where to start or what to look for and spend time trawling antique markets or second-hand sites for inspiration. Realising a gap in the furniture market, The Roost, known as one of the great champions of shopping preloved, has introduced a brand-new ‘Antiques’ category.
In its mission to change the way we shop, The Roost, following the introduction of the new category, is now home to some of the best UK antiques and vintage dealers in the UK. Joining the already extensive number of brands are Vantage Living, Bull + Tash, Stowaway London, Cart-House and Pato Interiors.
Below, we take a brief look at each:
Vantage Living
Vantage Living’s unique, antique and vintage pieces are carefully curated by founder Katie Ridges, who specialises in modern rustic items from France to one-off 20th-century studio pottery and furniture.
Bull + Tash (above and lead image)
Born out of a love for vintage interiors and a commitment to sustainable living, Bull + Tash is a team that prioritises protecting the planet. Sourcing lighting, furniture, and accessories from multiple periods, the focus of Bull + Tash is on the quality of design.
The beautiful pieces are still as useful and needed as they were the day they were made. Specialising in meticulously restoring the items that resemble the original designs to ensure that they continue to spark joy.
Stowaway London
A collection of curated and design-led furniture, objects & art, and lighting. Style, authenticity, quality and form are at the centre of each piece selected and sourced from around the UK & Europe.
Cart House
An eclectic mix of English and European furniture, Cart-House focuses on simple, well-designed furniture, textiles and objects.
Pato Interiors
Founded by Kat Westmacott, Pato Interiors is a carefully selected collection of beautiful and practical pieces dating from the early Georgian period through to Art Deco, with the odd piece form the Mid-20th Century thrown in.
The style is mainly pan-European, with plenty of English, French, and Hungarian items, but pieces sourced from other parts of the world are also stocked.
Pato Interior’s furniture and decorative items tend to have a stand-out detail, be it the shape of a leg, an unusual skirt or finial to add true character to the home.
Will Plowden, Managing Director and Founder of The Roost commented, “Customers want to buy good-quality items that are made to last, and they don’t always want to buy brand new. That’s why we’ve introduced a dedicated antique section to the website, where customers can now buy second-hand gems. We know that ‘new’ isn’t for everyone and that preloved items must ooze quality and be built to last.
“We’re proud to be working with some of the best dealers in the UK whose high standards align with our principles of connecting individuals with unique, quality artisan brands such as Vantage Living, Cart-House, Bull + Tash, Pato Interiors, and Stowaway London. This section will continue to grow as we source more vintage specialists and dealers to bring you the very best in one place.”
Sustainability and championing local and domestic suppliers are at the heart of The Roost. Its visualisation technology allows more consideration when making purchases, which has resulted in a near-zero return rate.
In addition, it has also teamed up with the British Heart Foundation to offer a free furniture collection service to help people find a new home for their unwanted items. The charity’s local team will come to your home to pick up preloved items and take them to be resold in one of over 180 British Heart Foundation stores across the UK.
