Following the great success of Tom Kitchin’s culinary events with Elegant Hotels and Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. in April 2019, the renowned chef will be hosting three more culinary events in Barbados in Spring 2020 and 2021.
The three-day Dine and Discover Barbados experience will be available at Elegant Hotel’s prestigious Colony Club and Treasure Beach. Food lovers will join Tom for an array of gourmet experiences on Barbados’ Platinum West Coast, including a market tour, gourmet dinner and beach BBQ, and see first-hand why the island has earned the reputation of culinary capital of the Caribbean.
New for this year, Tom Kitchin will welcome Bajan apprentice chefs into his team, who will assist him in preparing his 5-course gourmet dinner at Tapestry Restaurant.
Tom is a passionate advocate for supporting young chefs at the start of their careers, and these events will enable him to share his knowledge and culinary experience with the budding chefs.
Tom Kitchin is the Chef Proprietor of one of Britain’s top fine dining restaurants, The Kitchin in Edinburgh.
The Kitchin opened in 2006 and, in a dream-come-true moment, was awarded a Michelin star only six months later.
Tom’s first-class training working in some of Europe’s leading kitchens has resulted in a passion for innovative, local and seasonal cooking, which has become synonymous with his ‘From Nature to Plate’ ethos that runs through the core of his restaurant, The Kitchin in Edinburgh.
The Kitchin Group also includes award-winning Castle Terrace Restaurant, gastropub The Scran & Scallie, Southside Scran and Tom’s first restaurant with rooms, The Bonnie Badger.
Elegant Hotels’ three culinary experiences will provide a unique opportunity for foodies to try mouth-watering dishes which combine Tom’s Scottish style with a local Bajan twist, promising a triumph of flavours and zests, incorporating the freshest local produce from the island.
The experiences will be spread over three days across two of Elegant Hotels’ West Coast hotels –Colony Club and Treasure Beach, and include an interactive market tour, a five-course dinner, a beach cooking demo and an apprenticeship programme.
Market Tour and 5-Course Dinner at Tapestry restaurant – Saturday 4 April 2020
Tom will host an intimate local market excursion to source the freshest herbs, fruits, vegetables and fish, followed by a visit to PEG Farm, a biodynamic farm championing the farm-to-plate movement on the island.
The ingredients sourced that morning will be incorporated into Tom’s exclusive five-course menu when he takes over Treasure Beach’s Tapestry restaurant.
Tom will design and prepare a special menu that mixes Scottish heritage and Barbadian local produce; the dishes will display the best of the island and Michelin flare.
Cooking Demo at Colony Club – Monday, 6 April 2020
The Colony Club is one of the island’s most historic hotels and is situated on the beautiful Platinum West Coast.
The third culinary celebration will see Tom host a cooking demo and food styling workshop right on the beach, where he will create an interactive experience that goes beyond simple food tasting.
Chefs at the demo will get the opportunity to replicate the Michelin-starred chef’s dishes at bamboo stations. Following this, they will have the absolute pleasure of tucking into their creations with a rum cocktail expertly created by Colony Club’s Rum Vault concierge.
