For something a little different for the mains, I tried the vegetarian puy lentil moussaka (£14) which had a base of sliced aubergine and a top layer of ricotta cheese which had been browned. I joined this with a side of roasted sweet potato, paprika and yoghurt (£5) which was nicely finished off with some colourful ruby-red pomegranate seeds (£5).
As a carnivore, my guest chose the perfectly prepared pulled lamb burger (£16) which arrived with some sweet potato fries and a helping of broccoli with garlic and chilli (£5). Other options available include salads, stone bass fish, grilled calamari and salmon.
All five of the desserts at The Trafalgar Dining Rooms are £8, and with little room left, we made the sensible move of having the warm sliced tinned pineapple with roasted desiccated coconut flakes and a ball of refreshing coconut sorbet which was decorated using a dried coconut crisp. We closed our meal with some fresh mint tea and a spot of honey before heading up to the Rooftop bar to admire the spectacular view of the London skyline.
From what we sampled, this eatery has got the balance just right between cuisine which is inventive enough, but not so bijou that you thought you had walked into a fine dining restaurant which it doesn’t claim to be. The service was excellent and attentive throughout, and our host constantly made sure that all dietary requirements had been satisfied by the chef, so the recipe is there for future success as the customer base and reputation begins to build.
The Trafalgar Dining Rooms has also just launched its Business Express menu for those looking for a stress-free dining experience at lunchtime. It’s available from 11.30am until 5pm, and costs from £16 for two courses, and £19 for three.
