Venezianico has unveiled a new look for its Nereide Aureo dive watch. The latest version of the Nereide houses a unique dial, which is formed from a unique 24-carat gold treatment, a tribute to Venetian craftsmanship and the Basilica of San Marco’s gold detailing.
Embodying the values of “Venetianity,” the Morelli brothers have decided to give their diver’s watch, the Nereide, a sparkling new look. The new Venezianico timepiece is housed in a 42mm 316L steel case and boasts a unique 24-carat gold-finished dial. It is the Morelli brother’s homage to the gilded inner walls of the Basilica of San Marco, created by skilled artisans using techniques passed down from generation to generation.
The Basilica of San Marco is known for its mosaics, which date back to the 9th and 13th centuries, made with coloured and gilded glass tesserae depicting biblical scenes, saints, and geometric decorations. Much of these were the products of a medieval technique that used thin gold leaf on glass, and in total, this incredible craftsmanship is visible on more than 8,000 square meters of the Basilica.
The artisanal skill is shown on the dial of the Nereide Aureo, which sports a rippled finish that makes each model unique. Each of the metal discs used for the dials needs to undergo a tumbling process, which results in a surface with deliberate imperfections. Following this, the dials undergo a galvanic treatment, which sees them immersed in an electrolytic solution containing pure gold particles.
The application of electric current allows the particles to deposit evenly on the surface of the disc.
The result is a durable and brilliant gold layer coated with transparent protective varnishes, which is shielded from scratches, oxidation, and other damage. This ensures superior durability and resistance compared to traditional lamination methods, all of which guarantee an impeccable and resilient surface.
The dial, enriched with baton indexes in Super-LumiNova® BGW9 for perfect night vision, has the same aesthetic quality as lamination, bringing superior resistance and uniformity over time. All is harmonised under high-quality sapphire glass, with the unidirectional bezel in polished tungsten, one of the hardest materials in the world.
To count hours, minutes, and seconds within the elegant and satin-finished case lines, there is the Swiss precision of the Sellita SW200 movement. The case back pays homage, through engraving, to the majesty of the main nave of the Basilica of San Marco, with its walls adorned with gold leaf, and at the same time celebrates the rich artisanal tradition of Venetian goldbeater’s.
A new bracelet completes the timepiece. It draws inspiration from the works of Renaissance sculptor Jacopo Sansovino, who was known for his mastery and attention to detail.
Composed of five links, two polished and three satin-finished, the Sansovino Bracelet, through a solid deployment clasp with dual finish and micro-adjustment, ensures a comfortable and secure fit.
Venezianico’s Nereide Aureo Dive Watch is ideal for diving enthusiasts and those who love the perfect balance between elegance and sportiness.
