A unique design-focused hotel called Victorian House Hotel in the Lakes is now officially open.
Based in Grasmere, Victorian House Hotel has 19 individually designed bedrooms, a Shepherd’s Hut and several open-plan shared guest spaces designed by renowned interior designer Laura Fulmine. It also has a tranquil riverside garden and a range of outdoor facilities.
The hotel is the brainchild of the team behind Georgian House Hotel in Pimlico, London and is a classic Victorian building with an injection of modern and romantic design elements as well as eclectic details to complement the building’s original features.
With a range of facilities, the informal yet welcoming environment is perfect for couples, families and outdoor adventurers looking for a beautiful countryside retreat.
The Victorian House Hotel houses 19 spacious bedrooms. These are made up of a range of ensuite twin and double rooms, as well as two suites and one two-bedroom suite. There are four special Stargazer rooms with dual-aspect hip-to-ceiling windows. The windows join at the corner of the room and provide a 180-degree view of the surrounding sky and landscape.
Telescopes are also in every Stargazer room, allowing guests a chance to take a closer look at the starscape above them. Ensuring the rooms are suitable for all, added extras such as indoor teepee beds for kids can be requested.
Dogs are also welcome with some of the rooms able to accommodate our four-legged friends.
Every room has its own individual design, and each will be overflowing with character and charm. Each room also has an eclectic mix of vintage and antique furniture with touches of statement prints and bold patterns.
For extra privacy, guests might want to consider the Shepherd’s Hut. The hut is located at the end of the garden, by the river and is able to sleep two people. The hut has all the required essentials, such as a wood-burning stove and comfy armchairs. It also has French doors that open onto the riverbank and a bath.
The shared guest spaces on the ground floor of Victorian House Hotel are open-plan and welcoming, with cosy nooks, snug sofas and crackling fires alongside classic Victorian character features.
The high ceilings and original fireplaces in the lounge are complemented with traditional, rich Georgian colours of warm, dark greens and dusky terracottas.
Slate floors are finished with vintage rugs and casual seating with herringbone blankets and plush cushions to create a cosy feeling of ‘home away from home’.
A conservatory at the back of the house looks out onto the garden and has a country farmhouse feel with an eclectic mix of furniture and extra seating space for guests.
A relaxed dining area has a long, farmhouse-style table with mismatched seating and a reclaimed wood breakfast bar. The food offering at the hotel focuses on provenance and sustainability with the aim of sourcing as much local produce as possible.
Breakfast has plenty of vegetarian and vegan options, and an all-day menu of Cumbrian tapas, cheese boards and light, sharing dishes is also available at the hotel with matching wine and cocktails flights.
The bar is small and select, showcasing some of the best local and regional spirits – perfect for guests to return to after dinner at the pub.
Victorian House Hotel is perfectly set up to welcome lovers of the outdoors. A Boot Room with bench seating and basket storage provides a place for muddy walking boots and wet coats, whilst extensive bike facilities allow guests to store and wash bikes at the hotel.
For guests bringing dogs, a warm water dog shower is available to clean off mucky pups and special doggy towels to dry them off after a day scaling the famous Lake District hills.
Victorian House Hotel is now open with B&B rates starting from £115 per night.
