Design Hotels new member hotel in Paris, is the result of renowned fashion house Maison Martin Margiela’s first venture into hotel interiors. Fittingly for a property with such a fine design heritage, the hotel is offering guests a retail experience like no other: a shopping expedition to highlight the Parisian art de vivre at the antiques market of St-Ouen accompanied by the renowned expert Riad Kneife. The hotel is also perfectly located for the department stores and boutiques for which this European style capital is famed, right in the heart of the Golden Triangle. Not only is the setting spectacular, the hotel has become a destination in its own right thanks to an eclectic design mix of surrealist minimalism and original historical features. The Hausmann-era façade has been meticulously restored by architect Danièle Damon and master gardener René Quendo has created a dense garden of contrasting greens.
Luxury and comfort define each of the hotel’s 57 rooms and suites, 17 of which belong to the Couture Collection, exclusively designed by Maison Martin Margiela. Although each of these rooms is unique in design, they share the common elements of visual trickery and illusion, a theme which is also carried through to the public spaces.
In La Table du 8 Restaurant, the chairs appear to be floating above the concrete floor, while the White Lounge boasts a carpet portraying a classical French ceiling. In contrast to these predominantly white public spaces stands the Cigar Room which, thanks to its stained floor, dark walls and brown leather armchairs, positively exudes warmth and elegance and is thus the perfect place for guests to unwind.
In celebration of its membership with Design Hotels, La Maison Champs Élysées is offering guests a chance for one-on-one time with revered personal shopper Riad Kneife. Far removed from the usual haunts of the 8th arrondissement, the Marché aux Puces St-Ouen is much more than a flea market; it is a veritable design mecca with an unparalleled collection of antiques and artworks ripe for the picking. After a private consultation with Kneife, guests are taken on a bespoke tour of the markets, where the antiques expert is more than happy to authenticate pieces, negotiate prospective purchases and even organize the shipping arrangements for the items. To round off this unforgettable experience every guest is presented with a unique gift as a lasting memento of the day.
