The evolution of the mighty trainer from a purely running and walking shoe to a stylish, on-the-go, comfortable footwear for women has come a long way. And with good reason. Many of us are on our feet from the moment they touch the ground in the morning. However, finding an exceptionally comfortable athleisure shoe can still be troublesome for some of us who have awkward-shaped feet.
My quest to find a fashionable, comfortable shoe that offers proper arch support with plenty of traction led me to Vionic.
Thanks to the brand’s orthotic footbed technology, they offer a range of casual athleisure footwear that can take you from the office to running errands, shopping and travel.
But my eye caught the Cassis Lace Up trainer simply because of its easy slip-on function. You see, the laces can be tied up once – as tight as needed. And then, with the side zip, they can be easily slipped on and off.
It may not seem like a big deal, but when you’re regularly taking your shoes on and off (I never wear outdoor shoes around the home), it saves vital seconds.
The removable insole is made of EVA, which means the material is softer than rubber, allowing the foot to be cushioned nicely. This makes it an incredibly comfortable sole to walk in.
Vionic suggests wearing all their footwear range for a few hours for the first few days to allow your feet to adjust. Luckily, unlike many shoes I must ‘wear in’, this trainer was perfect from the moment I took my first stride.
To give you a bit of height, the heel is 1.5 inches, while the overall platform is half that amount. The shoe comes in four shades (black, light grey, marshmallow and rose) and is available in both wide widths. In addition, the footwear comes in whole and half sizes, making them great for those of us who can never find the right fit.
Sprucing up the Cassis Lace Up can’t be simpler. As long as they don’t get too muddy, a quick wipe using a dry cotton cloth will get rid of dirt and dust. Strong cleaning products should be used with caution and tested on a discreet area before applying.
Few people can wear a brand-new pair of shoes or trainers for 12 hours without moaning. This is a great all-around shoe, but I wish Vionic did more styles with the zip side. The time and effort saved from undoing and redoing laces is phenomenal.
The best thing about this trainer is that I can dress them up or down by pairing them with jeans, work trousers, a skirt or a dress. Now, the only problem I have is picking an outfit. Hmmm.
