“Aruba, Jamaica, ooh, I wanna take ya. Bermuda, Bahama, come on, pretty mama.” There’s a reason why the Beach Boys chose Bermuda as one of the places to feature in their iconic Kokomo smash hit song, and it’s because it is one of the most beautiful destinations on the planet.
With its 181 islands and subtropical climate, Bermuda has long been a favourite of travellers’. In this travel feature, we’ll be looking into what this wonderful country has to offer in 2022, including epic adventures, culinary delights and exciting events to suit every type of traveller.
Blessed with pink-sandy beaches, natural wonders and epic outdoor adventures, Bermuda offers the perfect year-round island escape for 2022. From diving in the shipwreck capital of the world, indulging in spa treatments in an ancient hidden cave, to dining on freshly caught lobster, the reasons to visit Bermuda are endless. The island’s peak season runs from April through to September, making now the perfect time to book a ‘bermudaful’ getaway for 2022.
The water is where it’s at in spring
Known as the shipwreck capital of the world with more shipwrecks per square mile than anywhere else on the planet, Bermuda is home to more than 300 mysterious sunken treasures waiting to be explored. March is prime time to explore the ocean with visibility at diving sites at its finest, where visitors can discover the largest shipwreck in Bermuda’s waters, the Cristóbal Colón. Its wreckage is scattered across 100,000 square feet of the seafloor, offering hours of fascinating exploration of the ship’s colossal fixtures and a plethora of marine life.

One of the best-kept secrets in travel, in March and April every year, travellers can head to West Whale Bay Beach to witness a mesmerising parade of majestic humpback whales as they make their annual trip through Bermuda’s waters. Bring a pair of binoculars to witness these playful, breaching mammals from dry land or head for the open seas via a whale-watching boat tour to get up close and personal.
With its ideal weather, calm and clear waters and rich maritime heritage, Bermuda is a prime destination for sailing and has hosted a wealth of competitions over the past four centuries. After two successful seasons hosting the infamous Sail Grand Prix, the competition will grace Bermuda’s pink sandy shores once again, with Season Three kicking off from 14-15 May 2022.
Travellers keen to take to the water themselves can expect a range of sailing experiences on the island, from sunset sightseeing cruises and private island-hopping excursions to one-on-one sailing lessons – the opportunities are endless.
For those wanting to give back to the destinations they visit, Living Reefs Foundation, Bermuda’s first organisation dedicated to the conservation of the island’s invaluable coral reefs, has now partnered with Rosewood Bermuda. The Coral Garden Workshops invite travellers to join the team on a snorkelling mission, planting coral for themselves and supporting the foundation’s efforts to maintain and grow Bermuda’s precious Coral Reef system.
Epic outdoor adventures in summer
The adventure seeker will not be short of epic outdoor escapades in Bermuda this summer, with the island boasting an array of invigorating experiences. Those looking to get the heart racing can try their hand at deep-water rock climbing at Admiralty House Park, which involves climbing sheer limestone faces with only the ocean to break the fall. Or they can take to the island’s turquoise waters or go kiteboarding to experience the island’s steady breeze and spectacular ocean views.
For the landlubber, Bermuda Rail Trail National Park spans the island from end to end, following an abandoned railbed that winds through tranquil landscapes and along stunning rocky coastlines. Get up close to the sights and sounds of island life by hiking, biking or horseback riding along this scenic, 18-mile trail, offering unrivalled views and natural wonders along the way.
The flavours of Bermuda in autumn
With international roots and a rich natural bounty of fresh produce and seafood, Bermuda’s cuisine is as unique as the island itself, with culinary experiences to suit every taste. Long-awaited by the Bermudian locals, September marks the start of spiny lobster season. Visitors can enjoy the delicacy by catching it alongside a licensed local lobster diver and then cooking it back on the shore, learning the ropes of shelling and cooking all in one go.
For those that enjoy the farm-to-table dining experience, join naturalist and vegan chef Doreen Williams James, creator of Wild Herbs and Plants of Bermuda, on a foraging tour through the Bermudian wilderness, where she’ll show you edible fruits, vegetables and herbs along the way. Afterwards, join Doreen for a cooking demonstration, sampling all of the delicious dishes she makes using these fresh and local ingredients.
