Wilderness Usawa Serengeti will be opening a new spacious family unit on 1st Dec 2023 to cater for adventurous families travelling to Tanzania.
As Wilderness‘ first luxury mobile tented camp operation following Serengeti National Park’s legendary Great Migration, Usawa will be offering the thrill of an immersive luxury tented experience in pristine wilderness settings.
“The Serengeti has been famed for decades as a once-in-a-lifetime family destination. Usawa’s remote locations in truly wild areas within the Serengeti literally throw open the doors for our guests to enjoy the best that this incredible ecosystem has to offer”, noted Catherine Millington, Wilderness Tanzania Regional Commercial Officer.
“As with all mobile camps in the Serengeti, Usawa is set within the plains and is unfenced. As parents ourselves, we know the challenges this presents. However, our new family offering doubles the space available to families by joining two luxurious Usawa tents together, with an external passage between them, making one family unit. This creates more of an open but protected space to enjoy together, with the comfort of knowing your family members are nearby”, she added.
Usawa’s family unit can accommodate up to three children (a maximum of five people). Wilderness’ expert Tanzanian team has years of experience hosting family safaris in the region and will offer numerous exciting adventures for children of all ages, as well as delicious kid-friendly meals.
Meaning “balance” in Swahili, Usawa offers the perfect mix of the thrill and drama of the migration and exclusivity. Its two authentic and intimate camps are set up in the less populous, more remote areas of the park along various key locations on the migration route.
Comprising beautiful open-plan tents with view-facing beds, Usawa offers the thrill of an immersive tented experience with all the comforts and luxury that Wilderness guests are accustomed to. Guests are completely immersed in this unfiltered nature experience, whether witnessing herds of migrating wildebeest or enjoying a quiet bush picnic and sundowners afterwards.
Importantly, Wilderness’ camp locations are ideally situated within the Serengeti’s designated walking zones, allowing guided walks to begin directly from camp (children 12 years and over are welcome to join). Exceptionally knowledgeable and expertly trained guides will shape memorable Serengeti guest experiences, including game drives (T&Cs apply for children depending on their age), birding and stargazing.
As the set-up is solar-powered and completely mobile, no permanent fixtures are left behind when the camps move, leaving a light footprint on the Earth. Wilderness is also proud to note that through formal training programmes for children and by educating and upskilling the community, it empowers local residents to reduce their reliance on poaching, snaring and cutting down trees.
By working with the authorities and other local partners, Wilderness strives to help protect the phenomenal natural areas of Serengeti National Park.
“The Wilderness Usawa Serengeti experience promises unforgettable safari moments, including sightings of mega herds of wildebeest, zebra, Thomson’s gazelle, eland and more than 500 species of birds. We are proud to have been showcasing these highlights to our guests over the past few months, and now look forward to welcoming families – bringing the extraordinary Usawa adventure alive to a new generation of nature lovers”, concluded Catherine.
