Vacuum, Wash and Dry at The Same time? Yes, it’s possible with the gorgeous-looking and extremely versatile Bissell Crosswave Cordless!
Before lockdown, I don’t think many people took cleanliness so seriously. I’ll be honest; I certainly didn’t. But when you’re stuck at home for weeks on end, all of a sudden, making sure your home is clean starts to become a priority.
I’ve always viewed cleaning the floors as one of those tasks that are far harder than I imagined. You know, one of those jobs that are best left to those who won’t moan and just get on with it. But I decided to face the challenge, and I have to say, I’ve surprised myself. I thoroughly enjoyed using it, and, dare I say it, it’s been a rather therapeutic experience.
The Bissell Crosswave Cordless is an all-in-one multi-surface cleaner that vacuums, washes and dries floors at the same time. With the touch of a button, you can seamlessly switch from cleaning hard floors to vacuuming to washing carpets and rugs.
This is just as well, as one thing that’s always crossed my mind is how do you get the dirt out from deep inside a carpet? We’re often so obsessed with cleaning our work surfaces with a good glug of bleach that carpets don’t seem to get the same level of attention when it comes to deep cleaning.
How it looks
I find that many people tend to skip this subject but not me. After all, in our household, it’s out on show while charging, and it needs to look good.
I loved the space-age design of the Bissell Crosswave Cordless. If it had some multi-coloured flashing lights and threw the odd beep here and there, it wouldn’t look out of place in the background of a sci-fi movie!
How does the Bissell work?
The Bissell’s powerful 36V Li-Ion battery ensures you get constant performance throughout the entire cleaning process while enjoying cordless freedom. And yes, that’s no exaggeration – particularly when you have a rather large house as we do; being tied to the wall plug socket can be annoying.
The machine has up to 30 minutes of run time on a single charge. With just one button, you can switch from cleaning hard floors to vacuuming and washing rugs. And in my house, that’s pretty much the set-up across the downstairs. It moved (relatively seamlessly*) from sealed hard floors to the rug areas dotted around without the need to change any parts.
The vacuum has a 0.8-litre dry capacity and weighs just 5.6kg. It includes a multi-surface brush roll, dirty tank strainer, self-cleaning storage tray, plus Bissell solution. The Crosswave saves you time and money on buying multiple floor cleaning tools and products, not to mention trying to find the space to store multiple pieces of equipment.
Using the Bissell Crosswave Cordless
There’s something incredibly satisfying in being pleased with a cleaning machine when you’re not a natural ‘cleaner’. I may have approached the Bissell Crosswave Cordless as a new toy to begin with, but by the time I finished, it had become an essential tool.
After using it, I was left with clean, shiny laminate flooring, sparkling tiles in the kitchen, fresh rugs in the sitting and lounging areas and a clean carpet upstairs.
The Bissell multi-surface formula removes dirt and powers through stains and sticky messes for a thorough and streak-free clean. It washes the rugs by injecting a solution of water and multi-surface cleaner into the fibres while the rotating brush roll removes dirt and refreshes, leaving a nice smell.
The best thing is it’s one machine performing multiple tasks well. I will add that the cordless convenience is also incredibly handy and does come a close second on the list of things I like about it.
My Gripe: *On hard floors and standard everyday carpet, it was simple to manoeuvre. But, on thick pile carpets, it was a different, completely different matter. I watched my wife struggling to push it back and forth on a thick pile of rug in one of the reception rooms and immediately rolled my eyes and said: “please, let me do that”.
I took over and found the Bissell Crosswave Cordless was far harder to move on one of our thick pile rugs. It felt like it had doubled in weight and took a lot more effort to move.
I am not sure if it was the suction power, the bristles or the design of the front of the machine causing the problem. I finally convinced myself this was because the Bissell Crosswave Cordless was getting stuck into the root of the fibres for a thorough clean. Hopefully, this was the case.
Looking After The Crosswave
Too frequently, we forget to clean the equipment we use (the fridge, washing machine, etc.) It’s something we need to be doing more to ensure things last much longer. Cleaning the Bissell Crosswave Cordless was quite straightforward, and you don’t even need to take the brush roll out.
You simply fill the cleaning tray with water, press the ‘hard floor’ button and recline the machine, allowing it to run for 15 seconds until all the water is picked up. When the job is done, all you need to do is remove the brush to dry. It couldn’t be any simpler.
Although I’ve made this sound quite straightforward, it did take some figuring out. The Instructions that come with the Bissell Crosswave Cordless are, in the main, image-based, and with many instructions of this type, they’re sometimes hard to follow.
To make things simpler, we found ourselves going to YouTube and found a video showing us how to do it.
Final Thoughts
As a household with multiple floor coverings – natural wood, tile, laminate and carpet, we’ve become a den of multiple cleaning tools and gadgets. We found that the Bissell Crosswave Cordless eliminates the need for this by doing it all. Although our carpeted areas appeared to our eyes pristine, as they’d never been walked upon in shoes, we were shocked at how dirty they were. Never again!
It’s a product that not only looks good; it also does what it states on the box. It’s not 100% perfect, but if you’re looking for an all-in-one cordless cleaner and don’t want to break the bank, the Bissell Crosswave Cordless deserves some serious consideration.
