There’s something super luxurious yet highly unassuming about Daniel Galvin Junior’s hairdressing salon in London’s Belgravia, the work-place of the man with a client list of leading TV personalities, British actors, royalty and London’s most beautiful socialites.
Warm smiles and welcome arms settled me into the stunning grade II listed building with its boutique hotel-esque interior and fresh, light and airy décor. Whilst waiting for my appointment to begin within its calming surrounds, I caught a glimpse of some styling action on a glamorous London socialite’s lustrous golden hair.
By just looking at the technique and skill applied by her stylist, I instantly knew that there would be an immaculate end result and that I was going to equally be in safe hands. I met my stylist, Joe (Joseph Bilton), who took me downstairs for a short but sweet consultation, as he seemed to just know exactly what my locks needed: a deep conditioning treatment and a seriously good cut.
After a thorough wash using Daniel Galvin Junior’s own organic, ethical range of hair care products called Organic Head, a no-nasty Detox Masque (known as the range’s ‘hair hero’) was applied mid-way through to the very ends.
While my organic hair treatment took time to work its full glory under a steam hood, I was also impressed to hear that as a pioneer in hairdressing, Daniel Galvin Junior focuses on much more than simply being a celebrity colourist. In fact, Daniel has been at the forefront of the organic beauty movement since its inception and is a firm believer in leading a balanced, healthy lifestyle.
He has tenaciously lobbied on behalf of his industry and the wider organic community and the brand has always firmly believed in the mutual benefits of quality natural products produced and sourced responsibly.
He’s even launched a new range especially for children, called Dubble Trubble, which has real ethical integrity to it, as it’s free from parabens, SLS, mineral oils or animal ingredients. Better yet, they smell deliciously good enough to eat with scents of Strawberry, Cool Cucumber, Banaberry, Cherry Bomb and Watermelon.
As a philanthropic hairdresser, for the past 12 years, Daniel has also maintained his role as an ambassador to The Prince’s Trust, working tirelessly to support on various projects associated with the youth charity.
Back to the salon itself. After a good rinse, my tresses felt so much softer to the touch, looked glossier, the colour was revived and my locks were bouncier and massively healthier than they had been before. So what is the secret formula to the Organic Head Detox Masque?
As Daniel explained to me later, our hair can suffer from external effects of pollution, leaving a residue, or film, over the hair, making it appear dull and lifeless. This wonder-product contains a nourishing cocktail of ingredients including coconut, argan, orange and castor oils plus wheat proteins and Vitamins C and E to aid hair growth and colour protecting amino acids.
This all helps to gently detoxify the hair and eliminate impurities and product build-up and boy, did it work well on me. What’s more, you get to take the rest of the Detox Masque home with you to prolong results – another touching reminder to the ‘giving back’ philosophy Daniel firmly believes in when tending to clients, society and the environment.
Next, Joe gave me what he described as a bezel cut to bring back some shape and body to my style. To help maintain the shine and condition, I was treated to a soft, natural dry under a setting machine instead of going for a blow-dry.
I floated out of the salon with a smile and bouncy, healthier curls, knowing I would be sure to visit this pioneering salon again.
