The UK’s Eat Out to Help Out Scheme has launched today offering consumers a discount of up to 50% when eating or drinking soft drinks. Will Broome, CEO of Ubamarket, explains why technology is one of the most important aspects in ensuring the scheme meets its ultimate goal.
The Eat Out to Help Out scheme constitutes an unprecedented support package for the hospitality sector. However, there are still several questions to have arisen, especially with concerns of a second wave of the pandemic arriving in Europe.
As a result, it is of utmost importance that proper protocols that safeguard customers and staff- including social distancing and extensive hygiene measures- are enforced, ensuring that consumer and retailer alike are enjoying and benefitting from the customer experience.
One way the industry can transition to the new age of post-COVID hospitality is by turning to technology to combat these challenges. Retail tech pioneers Ubamarket represent one company who have already developed similar technology in the supermarket and grocery sector.
Retailers including SPAR, EUROSPAR, Budgens and Londis have adopted Ubamarket’s mobile technology to support in-app payment, aisle sat-nav, automatic loyalty and remote stock checking capabilities for their customers.
Will Broome, CEO of Ubamarket, comments on the Eat Out to Help Out initiative, and how venues can effectively manage the onslaught of demand while maintaining safety and hygiene standards:
“With the Eat Out to Help Out scheme coming into effect today, it is vital that venues place the safety and wellbeing of their staff and customers first. While the scheme is an extremely important measure in helping to kickstart the hospitality sector, there are still concerns regarding the lack of consumer confidence across Britain, especially with the possibility of a second wave of the pandemic arriving in Europe.
As such, it is more crucial than ever that hospitality venues revitalise the customer experience by implementing new approaches and technologies to not only safeguard the safety and wellbeing of customers and staff but also to allow venues to take advantage of the benefits of the scheme.
Ultimately, tech-based solutions will be key in combating the challenges posed by increased safety and hygiene measures, while also helping venues dramatically improve the convenience, speed and safety of their customer experience, leading to increased popularity, success and growth beyond the Coronavirus crisis.”
