Fashion-conscious lovers of luxury around the world are being offered the chance to rub shoulders with the likes of Dame Zandra Rhodes, Colin McDowell and Fern Mallis in the exclusive setting of a Cunard cruise to New York.
They will be in at the birth of Transatlantic Fashion Week, a dazzling new event conceived by Cunard that the world’s most prestigious cruise line hopes will become as regular and iconic an event as London Fashion Week and New York Fashion Week.
The newly-refurbished Queen Mary 2, the glamourpuss of the seas herself, will sail from Southampton on 1 September for the seven-night crossing to New York and will arrive in the Big Apple on the day New York Fashion Week begins.
With Fern Mallis, the “Godmother of Fashion” and founder of New York Fashion Week at the helm, the new Transatlantic Fashion Week will have international credibility as well as offering a rare-as-hen’s-teeth opportunity for passengers to get close to fashion royalty.
Dame Zandra, who has dressed some of the world’s most famous musicians, will treat guests to “an audience with” as she discusses her glittering career.
Speaking as she was preparing to show her latest collection at London Fashion Week, the award designer sounded genuinely excited about being involved in the inaugural Transatlantic Fashion Week.
“Guests are going to be able to look forward to a fantastic fashion experience,” she said. “I’m going to be doing a dress show, as well as doing a talk with the fabulous Colin McDowell.
“Guests will have the chance to dine with all these specialists in the industry and ask questions from us all. I’m there to enhance everyone’s experience.”
While Dame Zandra reveals designs from her collections, emerging faces from the Storm modelling agency will take to the catwalk on board Queen Mary 2 during the voyage.
Guests will also have the chance to meet the designers of the future, as students from the world’s number one postgraduate fashion programme, based in the world’s number one university of art and design, The Royal College of Art, showcase their latest collections on board.
Cunard’s Angus Struthers, told Luxurious Magazine: “A sense of occasion and dressing with style has always been at the heart of the Cunard experience.”
