A splendid spot to visit when in Rome is the grandeur of Hotel De Russie, a Rocco Forte hotel on the Via del Babuino – right near the Spanish Steps and Piazza del Popolo and a stone’s throw from Via Condotti, another street laden with fashion houses and key attractions.
Not only does Hotel De Russie reside in a highly sought after location, it also offers those who visit more than simply a room to stay in.
This swish hotel features the most beautiful and serene courtyard with adjoining Stravinskij Bar, which we hear gets taken over by a DJ on Thursdays and Saturday nights, making it a fashionably trendy hangout joint. We also discovered that the in-house mixologist is renowned for his amazing cocktails in the city – apparently a total must to try.
Perched just a few steps above the courtyard, lies a lush, canopied terrace garden, fittingly known as the ‘Secret Garden’, as it provides a tranquil oasis amidst the bustle of central Rome. Here, you can dine alfresco at their restaurant, Le Jardin de Russie, which is consulted by Fulvio Pierangelini, one of the most celebrated chefs in the world.
We got to enjoy lunch in the beauty of the scenic surrounds and decided to go a la carte with a buttery white truffle tagliolini to share, followed by Mediterranean lobster with aubergines for myself and beautifully seared beef with mash and green vegetables for him. However, there is an excellent buffet option during lunchtimes, which we took a peek at and thought was definitely worth it for just the sheer variety. Perfect when you’re hungry, can’t wait and are feeling very indecisive on what to order.
The hotel also has one of Rome’s best health clubs and spa with a hydropool, jacuzzi, sauna, Turkish steam bath, beauty treatments and gym. Another bonus when you’re desperate to unwind.
For those guests who desire complete privacy and more space, we were shown a larger, elegant suite with a magnificent terrace overlooking the city’s rooftops (where you can even arrange a cocktail party or private dinner with friends and family). The Nijinsky suite, like all rooms and suites, is dressed in a classic contemporary Italian style. This penthouse features a walk-in wardrobe, lounge, dining and kitchen area and multiple and adjoining rooms for larger groups. You also receive a complimentary packing and unpacking service, whereby a specially-trained member of staff will hang and arrange each item upon arrival and carefully repack upon departure. Neat.
