Between 23 and 29 September 2012 Amanjiwo Borobudur, Aman’s resort in central Java will be hosting a meditation retreat with the renowned meditation teacher Khandro-la, archaeology expert Toni Tack and yogi Sebastien Pucelle.
From morning meditation instruction to evening lectures, yoga classes, private healing and counselling, as well as guided tours of Borobudur, a Theravada Buddhist monastery and the 9th century Mendut Temple, the retreat aims to rejuvenate the heart and mind, offering an opportunity for reflection and peaceful contemplation.
Over the course of the retreat, participants will practice morning meditation at Amanjiwo Borobudur; visit Borobudur and other important local Buddhist monuments and explore the meaning of these sites; delve into the Buddhist philosophy of reflection, interdependence and compassion; participate in candlelit pujas and chanting exercises; visit nearby rivers and villages; and ultimately, learn how to carry the teachings of the programme into their everyday lives.
Guests will visit Borobudur, the world’s largest Buddhist sanctuary with Toni Tack, an Art Historian and Archaeologist who specialises in Southeast Asia and has lived and worked in Indonesia for over twenty years. She has lectured extensively on the rich architectural history and traditions of Indonesia and other countries in Southeast Asia.
Yoga sessions will be taught by Sebastian Pucelle, who has studied and practised yoga extensively throughout Europe and Asia for over 15 years His yoga training has been bolstered by deep immersion in Buddhist philosophy and meditation.
Amanjiwo overlooks Borobudur, a UNESCO world heritage site dating from the 8th century. Set within a natural ampitheatre built from local limestone, the hotel has 36 suites, 15 with their own private swimming pools, each have a terrace with a thatched roof pavilion and a sunken outdoor bath.
Programmes for the three-day and six-day retreat include accommodation, airport transfers, daily breakfast, all retreat activities (including one picnic lunch for those on the three-night retreat and one picnic along with one dinner at a local village for those on the six-night retreat), entrance fees to Borobudur and Mendut temple, and morning/afternoon meditation group classes.
