JIA Group’s Yenn Wong, in partnership with Chef-owner Manav Tuli, will open its doors to Leela this mid-November in Lee Garden Three, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong, bringing a unique and playful approach to Indian cuisine to the district.
Leela, with Manav Tuli at the helm in the kitchen and backed by the expertise of an award-winning restaurant group, Leela will be a celebration of India’s rich and diverse culinary traditions and will embrace sustainability and local sourcing.
The Concept of Leela
Derived from the Hindu concept of “Leela,” which represents the divine play or sport of the gods, the restaurant intertwines the playfulness and whimsy associated with Indian cuisine. Leela positions itself as a culinary playground, bridging the gap between tradition and innovation with an a la carte menu and set menu offering.
At Leela, guests can expect a culinary journey that pays homage to India’s most influential empires, with a particular focus on the Maurya Empire of circa 300 BC. By using the finest local proteins, vegetables, and ingredients sourced from Prime Organic Limited, a trusted supplier of Indian origin certified organic and GMO-free spices, lentils, and millets, Leela ensures a flavourful and sustainable dining experience.
Leela is keen to support local agriculture and aquaculture and has partnered with Farmhouse Productions for locally sourced vegetables, Hong Kong Aquaculture for sustainable seafood, and Wah Kee Farms for premium local pork, and will be striving to obtain its produce from them whenever possible.
The Design of Leela
In collaboration with renowned international restaurant interior designer André Fu of Andre Fu Studio, Leela boasts a visually stunning space reflecting its cuisine’s elegance and modernity. The restaurant’s commitment to sustainability extends to its menu design, using recycled corn paper menus and eschewing the use of plastic throughout the establishment.
About Leela’s Chef
Chef Manav Tuli, who previously served as Chef de Cuisine at CHAAT at Rosewood Hong Kong where he played a pivotal role in earning the restaurant its prestigious Michelin star and one diamond from Black Pearl Restaurant Guide as well as being recognised by Tatler Dining Asia as Top 20 Restaurants of Hong Kong & Macau, now leads a team dedicated to redefining Indian cuisine in a contemporary setting.
With their nuanced approach to flavour and technique, guests can expect a dining experience that captures the essence of India’s rich gastronomic heritage in a truly modern and innovative way.
“I am delighted to be realising my dream to open my first-owned restaurant in Hong Kong, a city which I have called home in the past four years since I moved from London with my family. In the past four years, I have witnessed the growth in the popularity of my country’s cuisine in Hong Kong, and I cannot wait to show Hong Kong and Asia more about the roots and heritage of Indian cuisine at Leela in Causeway Bay,” says Manav Tuli, Chef-Owner of Leela.
“At JIA Group, we are delighted to be expanding our restaurant portfolio with one of Hong Kong’s finest Chefs we have seen in the past four years. As we continue to grow as a group, we want to keep diversifying our cuisine offerings for the Hong Kong market, and we are excited to continue this adventure with our first Indian restaurant in Hong Kong, together with such a talented chef like Manav.
I am delighted that we will be working closely together to only make Leela a success.” says Yenn Wong, Chief Executive Officer of JIA Group.
Leela is poised to become a culinary destination for those seeking a unique dining experience in Hong Kong, where modern Indian cuisine intertwines with sustainability, creativity, and the divine play of flavors. Stay tuned for more updates on Leela’s official opening this mid-November.
