The summer of 2023 could be one of the hottest on record, which, coupled with a cost-of-living crisis, will cause some uncomfortable days and sleepless nights. To help, Meaco has published a new consumer guide focusing on energy-efficient cooling appliances, all of which will keep down the heat and, equally as important, the energy bill.
As a result of climate change, British summers are becoming longer and hotter. Four out of five of the hottest days in Britain’s history have occurred since 2019, all reaching record temperatures of over 37°C. With El Niño, a climate event responsible for raising temperatures globally, also set to return this year, many households will be looking for ways to feel more comfortable during a summer that could reach unprecedented highs.
This consumer guide is the third from the leading UK air appliances brand Meaco. Previous guides have provided practical advice for consumers on identifying energy-efficient, cost-saving appliances and choosing the most cost-effective dehumidifier for their needs.
Quiet cooling appliances have been in high demand over the past few summers to help consumers to get a good night’s sleep during long weeks of uncomfortable nights. With more people working remotely than ever before, finding a quiet cooling solution for the home is increasingly a must-have during the summer.
“Last year’s summer heatwave saw a surge in consumers purchasing fans and air conditioning products,” explains Chris Michael, managing director of Meaco.
“This year, UK households are particularly discerning when buying new products due to the energy crisis and appliance running costs. Our guide provides both the information consumers need to buy the right products for their need, but also helps households understand how much these products will cost to run.”
Meaco launched its first range of cooling products in 2017, building on its experience developing air treatment products such as dehumidifiers and air purifiers for both trade and household use. This latest cooling guide provides a wealth of technical detail for those looking to buy a portable air conditioner, taking readers through a range of calculations to understand the level of heat in a room, so the machine can treat the temperature and provide the intended cooling effect.
“Portable air conditioners have been gaining popularity as the British summers get hotter,” explains Chris. “The number of occupants and appliances, as well as the lighting and windows in a room, can impact its temperature, and while an air circulator fan can provide ventilation and relief, it’s air conditioning that truly can reduce the heat in a room.
The guide provides formulas for consumers should they wish to know exactly how much heat is emitted in a room, and therefore what size portable air conditioner to purchase.”
