Leanne Kelsall embarked on a mission, to discover the best places to eat around Regent Street, for this article she opted for a Moroccan experience and certainly got it at Momo’s
Momo is a North African treasure tucked away in Regent Street’s Food Quarter. They serve authentic Moroccan cuisine from their restaurant, heated terrace and adjacent café. We were invited to try the Afternoon Tea in the cosy Mo Café.
The experience got off to a regal start as we relaxed into our Moroccan-inspired surroundings, with ambient African beats in the background. The large arched windows and doorways let in just enough light to reflect off the array of colourful ornate lanterns hanging above us. But this wasn’t your typical finger sandwiches and scones British tea – we were being treated to an authentic taste of Marrakesh.
To start, you can enjoy a choice of green, white or fruit teas, as well as fresh Moroccan mint tea. The steaming, sweet mint tea was poured from a great height into our small, decorative glasses by the waitress. This was shortly joined by the 3-tier afternoon tea and a woven basket of warm, cinnamon-infused scones. As we worked our way through the spice-filled savouries and the sticky, sugary sweets we came across foods we know and love, as well as a many we’d never tasted.
Seductive and something new, Momo’s afternoon tea is a treat for all the senses.
