Experience the arctic from every angle with a new autumnal adventure in northern Norway’s Senja Island from the specialist travel company, Off The Map Travel. Take to the air in a private helicopter, hike across the dramatic coastal and mountaintops and swim beneath the waves to discover arctic aquatic life.
The five-day Senja Autumn Adventure has been created to complement the time of year perfectly and includes activities and day trips that will help visitors experience the most of what the incredible island of Senja has to offer, including some of the best views in Norway.
The autumnal colour palette of Senja ranges from dark brown and green of the mountains right through to turquoise of the crystal clear bays and inlets.
The adventure begins with a night in Trømso, also known as ‘the Paris of the North’ due to its fashion, delicious food and cosmopolitan culture. Guests will then hop on a helicopter ride, taking them over to Senja, offering a bird’s eye view of the entire island before settling into accommodation in the small fishing village of Mefjordvaer, on the North West coast.
“Senja is a truly unspoilt part of the world, with so much colour and things to see whichever way you look,” Jonny Cooper, founder of Off the Map Travel, said.
Mefjord Brygge hotel combines a variety of room sizes, apartments and cabins to suit any party size. The location is perfect for thrill-seekers, nature lovers and photographers looking to capture their memories on film. The hotel’s private pier overlooks a fjord attracting local wildlife and providing sensational views of the rugged mountains on all sides.
A simplistic wellness area is a perfect place to unwind and take stock of the day’s adventures, with a sauna, outdoor hot tub and solarium.
Over the next few days, guests will enjoy a private boat trip to explore the sparkling blue ocean around Senja, hopefully catching a glimpse of seals and dining on excellent traditional North Norwegian cuisine with a modern twist, including the island’s freshest seafood.
The last day of the adventure is all about discovering hidden Senja. Starting with an ‘underwater fjord tour’, there is an opportunity to snorkel through the world’s largest cold-water coral reef, the Røst-reef, full of rare fish species, before heading upriver to watch shoals of salmon in their natural habitat at one of Senja’s larger bays.
An e-bike tour through the mountains is next on the list and is the perfect way to access some of Senja’s most remarkable viewpoints, noticing how the water changes colour along the coast, before arriving at the final activity of the day – a private dining experience on a secluded beach.
Known for providing tasting experiences based around locally sourced seafood, chef Ricardo Santos will prepare a meal using some of the finest ingredients.
“This is a once in a lifetime chance to experience Senja from every angle,” Cooper added: “From exploration to relaxation and exclusive experiences, no stone has been left unturned on this adventure itinerary. Senja provides a full sensory experience rarely found anywhere else.
“We want people to enjoy this unspoilt recreational paradise in all its glory and be completely looked after. From late August, guests should keep an eye on the skies in case they’re lucky enough to catch the aurora, which starts to reappear after the Spring and Summer months.”
The five-day, four-night Senja Autumn Adventure itinerary costs from £5499 per person on a full board basis, based on two people travelling, not including flights.
This includes one night’s hotel accommodation in Trømso, transfers to and from Senja, three nights in deluxe accommodation, all activities and a private chef.
