We explore the legacy of probably the most famous manufacturer of writing implements in the world – Parker Pens
It’s more than a gift, it’s a Parker. The iconic and much-loved pen company has long been synonymous with fine writing, ever since the company’s incorporation in Wisconsin back in 1892. At the age of just 25, founder George Parker applied for his first pen patent and began the Parker story with the driving philosophy: “It will always be possible to make a better pen”.
Since that auspicious date, Parker pens have taken centre stage in peace treaties held by heads of state and royalty. As well as being a special way of showing appreciation to colleagues, loved ones and family.
- 1898
The President of the American peace commission uses a Parker pen to sign the Treaty of Peace, ending the Spanish-American War. - 1987
Four unique sterling silver Parker 75s are custom-made. The pens are used to sign the Intermediate Nuclear Arms Treaty by American President Ronald Reagan and Soviet Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev on December 8 that year. - 1990
Mikhail Gorbachev and George Bush sign the Salt Treaty, limiting the use of strategic arms. Each uses a Parker pen engraved with their signature and decorated with a sapphire.
As well as being the preferred pen of heads of state, Parker’s top-of-the-range fountain pens make ideal gifts.
