With thirteen self-styled boutique hotels in cities across the UK, Malmaison puts its own stamp on the buildings. And their Birmigham branch is no different. In fact, this former Royal Mail sorting office has been so glamorously converted into a stunning boutique of a place, that its swanky signature Malbar and Brasserie is extremely popular with non-hotel guests and a go-to place on a night out. It’s no wonder when you see the huge sweeping red carpeted staircase leading to the first floor bar as you check in.

But what about the rooms? Well if you’re looking for somewhere truly special to lay your head in the middle of this buzzing city centre, then in one word you’re ‘sorted’.

The bedrooms are definitely designed with the adult in mind with its sultry mix of dark wood and opulent fabrics. There’s a real sexiness about the rooms with plenty of plump velvet cushions across the bed which is complemented by lots of black colour and mood lighting. The rooms are incredibly spacious and have seated areas complete with comfy armchairs to watch your favourite channels on huge flat screen TVs or just to have a glass or two of red wine. In fact, their snack section is to die for and include grown up goodies such as salted caramel popcorn and gooey chocolate brownies. Be warned though as they do come with a hefty price tag.

With high end shops including Harvey Nichols on the doorstep, you’re bound to be exhausted hunting bargains. It’s just as well as there is a ‘Petit Spa’ on site. As the name indicates, it’s small but perfect if you’re looking for a quick facial or a massage. For those wanting to lounge around for longer, there’s an option to dip into the spa pool, sauna or steam room.

The brasserie offers a mixture of French and British cuisine offering classic dishes made from locally sourced produce wherever possible. Breakfast is also served here where guests can choose from a buffet or have cooked food made upon request. This is a great hotel, in a great city, with a good touch of glamour which makes it an ideal place for a romantic date or a classy night out with a group of friends.
